I absolutely love his playing, but I kinda find his voice and slightly creepy accent to be a bit off-putting. 
Seriously though, he's great. Good for him. That looks like a great, cost effective instrument for people looking for something that can play fast and bright.

No one knows every bass player. I've learned about a lot of players I didn't know when someone mentions them. I look up their work.
When someone just drops a "Who?" as their only comment it's like they're proud of their ignorance or something.
I'm content with my ignorance . There is a difference. People should not get offended because you don't know who a player is. Besides , sometimes ignorance is bliss .

I'm down with his solo stuff but am just curious to hear him in some full band contexts.
This is true. I recall Josh Paul being pictured with a Yamaha bbn5a and the cort sig model and he didn't use either. The only one I can think of is Nathan east who I know used his signature basses..I use my L2 every day which of course is not a sig bass but many of my influences used it. Love it

So why even ask, then? to lightheartedly tease the fans? because you're ever-so-slightly annoyed by the fact that not recognising the name puts you to the wrong side of relevance? or because you do bask in your ignorance, just a skosh? simply as an "amirite?" to the fellow-oblivious passers-by? more than one of the above? other?
(I'm not a fan of Berthoud - no litotes, I truly neither love nor hate what the chap does - so no offense taken here. Just curious of your thought process.)

People won't watch a video of a fella playing root whole notes, because it's boring. But to assume he can't is absurd.
He comes off as a genuinely nice dude as well, so might as well hate him for that too.

He has put in the work. Just because we don't know the bands he has played with doesn't mean he's not doing the work.

Funny thing is that I wasn't joking .
The deal is, if I didn't look at the threads on Davie504, I wouldn't know who he is either (this is the guy who should be famous instead). For me it just fuels FOMO to keep up with all the trendy people out there, so I try not to worry about it. There are a thousand things I already know I need to work on without learning another 50 riffs.
Just to add my 2 cents on another topic brought up, things have changed (again) and a lot of people watch YouTube musicians, so why not use them to endorse products? I hope as I continue to get older I don't become unable to accept change. Change is gonna happen, you know, so why not just find some enjoyment in it? ;-)
I thought that was clear. You said you're "contented with your ignorance" and couldn't be arsed just googling the name. Still you asked "who?" in your post. In my post I asked you why you did so, and ventured some possible answers.
