Cheap 12 cabs

My heads are: Markbass LM250 black line, Kustom KXB500, EA iAmp500

A light 115 may also be on the table.

First I tried (at GC) the Ampeg Venture VB115 -- it dropped off DB's as I decended a scale from low A to low E. I was horrified that Ampeg would released that cab like that. I can't imagine 5-string players would be happy with this cab. Even tho I play 4-string basses, I sometimes play in Eb standard or drop-D tuning. So it was big nope from me.

Then I tried the new Markbass MB58R PURE 151 neo cab -- it starts to compress as you decend from low A to low E. It was distracting to me as a player. Another nope from me. For some reason, there are three 151 cabs in the MB58R line. They all share the same rear reflex ported cabinet dimensions.
  1. MB58R 151 Pure: 400watt RMS custum Neo 115 with "tweeter", 40hz-20khz, crossover 3.5khz
  2. MB58R 151 P: 300watt RMS, classic ceramic 115 with "new piezo tweeter", 40hz-18khz, crossover 3.5khz
  3. MB58R 151 Energy: 400watt RMS custom Neo 115 with 1" horn tweeter, 40hz-20khz, crossover 3.5khz
GC only had the Pure cab in stock. I wondered what the MBR151P ceramic cab might sound like? Maybe it won't have that compression?

And then I played the Mesa SW115....

If you are looking for the kind of performance you describe, it’s unlikely you will find it new in an under $500 cabinet(s) solution. You may be discovering this on your own…

Have yall noticed that a lot of 1x12 bass cabs have come and gone in the last 15 years?
Nope. The single or double 12 cab is still the dominant cab of choice.

Except for the MarkBass all of the other cabs you mentioned are in the low to mid grade performance category, not sure why you picked them when you are clearly looking for high performance cabs.

Deep lows, loud, cheap. Pick two.

I love when old threads come back around.

Those Eden D112XST-8 are really nice, and better in pairs.
Yes they ARE! Those are sweet and like virtually all the 1x12's, a pair always sounds better than one. A friend of mine from Sweden, who used to be active on the Eden Forum back in the day had 4 of them and would take as many or as few as he deemed desirable for the group he was playing with or the venue they were playing.

Has anyone done a comparison of the Eden D112XST and EX112?

I've had the latter for years and never tried the former, never really got a great sound from mine, though I only used it with one of my 2 Eden Class D amps and not my WT-400.

I have to wonder what pairing it with another EX112 would sound like and be better. Would be an order of magnitude cheaper than getting the XST.
