Cheap 12 cabs

I just bought 2 Peavey Headliner 112 cabs from Musicians Friend for 212.00 each this afternoon. Thought that was a good deal
I'd say that was an excellent deal! And don't anybody convince you otherwise-- Peavey makes good, sturdy quality stuff. There's a reason they've been around since the late 60's. I still own a pile of "silverfin" Peavey combos from the 80's and won't sell them. I don't use them-- but I keep them for sentimental value...

Dunno but I have gigged my Peavey many times alone and it has done the job. Cab is solid. Nice lows. Admittedly, not a lot of highs as the tweeter is pretty subtle. I hate clank so it's fine for my needs. 2 of these will bring the boom. Real world review.

Good to know. If my checking account is looking pretty flush I might just put every cab I own on Craig's List and go buy a pair of these. I wish I knew exactly what they weighed, though. I have GK 115 cabs that weigh 40 lbs. I'd suffer a 112 that weight similar because at least they're smaller. Would be nice if they were lighter too though.

Cruel world... This box was on my doorstep and I literally had no time to plug it in. I'm putting kids to bed now, so it will have to wait until tomorrow or Saturday.

Sigh. And that makes me think I should just bite the bullet and have a 12/6 cab made for me for $1000 and never have to do any of this crap again.

You would never regret that move. I recommend a 12/6/1 cube config. Great for wider heads, and mixing with 15subs, or 15/6/1 cabs.

I rather like the cut of your jib, sir. Occasionally I daydream about which fear-cab combo I'm going to concoct. Especially if I can keep using a dual amp head where each side can go to 2 ohms. No cab mixing fears for me!

Also, I've had my eye on that Lakland 55-01 for a while. Let's hit that in another thread!

...The only reason to make it 4 is that it's a big cab with a lot of speakers in it. So big that you'd only ever need one of em. I'll never lug a big cab like that around again...

A 12/12/6/1 fEARful typically is built with tilt back handle and rear wheels. Moving it is effortless, even for this 69 year-old. 4 ohms.

All but one of my fEARfuls were purchased used from talkbass classifieds.

Have you investigated the options presented by Leland Crooks and co.?

A 55-01 is a fine bass. PM me if you'd like my take on them.

I'll be using mine for a wedding gig this weekend.

I would say a hair under 40lbs. Not as light as my GK Neo112's which are around 30-33lbs.

I'm now toying with the notion of buying three 112 cabs and using them for (1) apartment practice, (2) rehearsal and most gigs, and (3) big gigs and outdoor stages. Until such time as I can replace them with a pair of fear-based 112s. Problem is, I'm not so flush right now. I need to see 3, 4K in the bank before I even think about this kind of endeavor.

Wait - did you say in another thread your got that for $200-something?

Just how does one stay on top of Amazon deal offerings?
Correct, and I tried to get a second one at the same price but was unable to. I really dont know how much detail I should go into (between TB rules I may not be aware of or if anyone reading has any affiliation with Amazon) but I didnt do anything shady.

Tip: put an item on you list and check it a few times a day, the price will float around.

Hello everyone. Just new user on this forum... not sure If I suppose to start a new thread or not... Anyway, my subject if similar to this discussion...

I have acquired a GK RB1001-II brand new some months ago and have never powered it on simply because I do have the cabinets. My intention is to keep on the GK to have a set of the same brand, so my doubt is which set of cabinets would be suitable in my case. I have a 4 String Stingray MM and a 5 String SG Ibanez and I mostly use them to play R&B, Soul and Funk music.

I initially thought on acquire a classical set using a NEO410 in conjunction to a NEO115. However there is an option with 2x NEO212-II (which are lighter) and finally a mix using a NEO410 in conjunction with a NEO212-II.

Prices of each set do not differ to much. I will have to import the chosen set to Brazil so that the difference $$ for the acquisition is not an issue. My concern is regarding to the quality of the sound.

What cabinet set would provide better results, considering the type of song and the instrument mentioned ?

I've sent an email to GK customer support early this week with no answer so far...

Your comments are very appreciated.

Thank you guys !

I've owned some of these cabs. I'd steer clear of the Neo 115-III cab. Not gonna be warm enough for the vibe you're after, I don't think. I personally don't care for 410 cabs, but your mileage may vary. I think the real darling of the bunch would be that Neo 222-II cab. It's pretty loud, pretty light, and pretty low. Good all-arounder, I think.

If you are thinking big, the GK 4x12 has a lot of fans.
