Cheap 12 cabs

I will never own another 4 ohm cab. The only reason to make it 4 is that it's a big cab with a lot of speakers in it. So big that you'd only ever need one of em. I'll never lug a big cab like that around again.

My Carvin amp, however, does operate with a 2 ohm load. I'd get three 8 ohm 12 cabs, maybe. 1 for practice, 2 for gigs, 3 for bigger gigs.

I find that using a 4-ohm cab on smaller gigs gives me a little more headroom, which I like to have.

Thanks!
I wanted to get 2 for that price, but it wasnt doable today. The price jumped to $609 after I bought it. Down the road there may be another deal like this, and I want to be ready.
Congrats on the excellent deal! Amazon occasionally goes crazy and does that. And with Prime shipping? Awesome deal! I hope you get many years of enjoyment out of your Eden!

I definitely believe in quality over quantity, which is why I have a pair of Uber Quads as my main "big gig" setup. I will say though that for a backup, or extra rig, those Hartke cabs are intriguing at that price. But I'd have to use my Genz GBE 750 head which will do 2 ohms to use 2 of them. Or a stereo power amp, which might make for an interesting and inexpensive stereo rig.

Not really interested in the "one of each" style of buying though. Would definitely prefer a matched pair of whatever I went with. Actually I had to kind of twist the guy's arm a bit to get both the Uber Quads from him, he only wanted to sell one (which he kind of didn't make clear until I was there and asked about both). Then with a matching pair, you always have the option of just using 1 for smaller stuff.

Actually, I also have an old pair of JBL G-730s, and I've used them as a bass rig before (with my SWR Bass 350). Sounded pretty good overall, but I think they need to be recabbed. I get the feeling the boxes are a little small for the woofer so the low mids are a little congested. They're also heavy as hell for some compact 12" 2 ways (about 45 lbs each). I feel like building new cabs for them, I could probably shave off 5-10 lbs and flatten out the response a bit and they'd be pretty great for bass or keys. I paid 50 bucks for the pair (talk about cheap).

Probably any number of things. Better materials. Better design. Better QC. Better sound. More power handling. More reliability. Wider frequency response. Better wages for whoever put it together. Etc...

Not all of these will always be true, or proportionally so. But all that kind of stuff adds up.

So what are the real differences between a $250 112 cab and an $800 112 cab? Efficiency of the driver? Better engineering/cab design? Materials? That's a pretty big delta for things that, on the face of it, pretty gosh darned similar.
Dunno but I have gigged my Peavey many times alone and it has done the job. Cab is solid. Nice lows. Admittedly, not a lot of highs as the tweeter is pretty subtle. I hate clank so it's fine for my needs. 2 of these will bring the boom. Real world review. Quite honestly, the USA built cabs will cost more but are they worth that much more? All I know is the Peavey is a well built cab.
