Cheap but good OD

I ordered a CM2 based on recommendations here as well as several other threads and sound clips. For me it was a toss-up between that box and the hardwire Valve Distortion. I don't have it yet, but I'll gladly post clips (amateur as they will be) as soon as it shows up. It cost me 50 bucks used.

I wanna get a CM2 also! I'm still surprised the Green Rhino doesn't get a lot of love on TB!

I was close to getting the GR, but after listening to the clips (and spending too much on a VT Bass also) I decided the hardwire series had more of the sound I wanted.

I just got a used bad monkey for $26 (with shipping). I haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet, (it literally arrived today), but from the 15 minutes I did get to play with it I was really pleased.

I am just getting into pedals and I am sure I will upgrade down the line but when it comes to "cheap" OD I don't know how I could have done much better. YRMV.

If you could post some clips, that would be excellent! Can't decide what I want, but this is at the top of the list.

For posterity: I think i've changed my mind. What I really, really want is the sound of the VT Bass from Tech21--but with a DI, and at a reasonable price. I'm not sure such an animal exists, but the Hartke Bass Attack seems pretty close. If I try one out and it doesn't satisfy, I'll probably just save my pennies for the VT bass and get a separate DI (or just go without one). I'm through compromising on the sound I want.

I myself owned two iterations of the Bass Driver DI. Both sounded good--but neither of them could go as far into the breakup distortion area as I liked. That is to say, they'd go there, but that's where they start to sound bad. That's pretty much why I got rid of it.

The VT pedal seems different. It appears to go comfortably from subtle sizzle to fat tube to full fuzz--all while still sounding convincingly tubey.
