Squier CV Jazz PickUp Comparison
View attachment 847780 So i go to my local gc and to my surprise they actually had 35 basses in stock (usually they are quite empty) so im messing around on a couple of four stringers (i only own and play a fiver at the moment) so the sales guy say hey man check this bass out he covered my eyes plugged me into a mark bass 4x10 and i started jamming away ,about 5-7 mins later i discovered i was playing a fender squire jazz bass 349$i had to do multiple double takes it sounded very good, he said just throw some after market strings on it and replace the pickups and your good to go,my question is since im not very knowledgeable with pickups, which pickups Would sound best on this passive bass i love the bassy growling tone and which strings would you recommend? ?????
He didnt touch he just was like you can't look and used his hands so i couldn't see the basses ,i played about 5-6 different basses, for the money you cant beat this bassHe "covered your eyes"?
Did you play every bass in the store?
Reminds me of the time I was tryin out a guitar and the GC sales guy leaned over to make a tweak to the amp, and I was wearing shorts. ..the dude actually droooled on my knee. :/
Nice guy, bit I don't like being drooled on by anyone, let alone a GC sales dude.
I just noticed that when u type droool.. (correctly ) you get the emoticon. .drool.
Thats awesome im really feeling thoseView attachment 848394 I own one. It is one of the best basses you can get for the money out there. Mine is heavily modified now but I loved it since I played it in the store. It has that Jazz growl you want from a Jazz bass obviously. I use Chromes by the way.
you already said you love it. leave the pups alone for a while. if you buy it, get them to throw in the strings. they will. make your choice there depending on whether you want more zip (steel, or a bright nickel) or mellow (flats), or maybe just something you haven't tried yet! If you're digging the growl, try the newer DR Pure Blues on it.

Manchester CT.Which GC was that? There are a couple near me and I'd love to avoid the droolers...
(edit - the emoticon thing happened to me too...)
Manchester CT.
Now, I'm not Bashing GC, or sales, or drooolers.. This guy is my goto sales guy. Was just a very awkward moment is all. Did he notice the drool? if he did, he cldnt wipe it off himself.. If I wiped it, then he would notice it, if he hadn't already..
Anyway..I agree with OP, but I say it differently: "INEXPENSIVE does not ALWAYS mean cheaply/poorly made".

How did you change the knobsI have one. I have DiMarzio model Js in it. It's a wonderful upgrade that I recommend. I play mine all the time. Rotosound 66s on it right now...good fit. (also, black plastic knobs make it look more legit)

the new EB Cobalt Flats could be really nice on that bass too.
Ebay, I think. Just searched "black plastic Jazz bass knobs".
Found it thanks
Ok. Bought a CV Jazz sight unseen from Sweetwater. Tried it out. Was amazed at how good it sounded. Not for a Squire. It's a damn nice sounding Jazz Bass period.
