I have the squier.. and the pickups sound just fine for me. All i need to change are the strings (which I have yet to do)

I took my squier and my more expensive ibanez sr to practice to compare sounds, which fits better in the live sound. The whole band preferred the squier.

Yep. My CV Jazz is awesome. I'm only selling it because I need more space in my apartment. Otherwise, they are great instruments that are only sweeter because of the reasonable price tag.

If it's the latest version with the plain pickup covers, I wouldn't change them. They are perfectly fine. Really, the only thing you might want to change on them are the volume and tone pots, especially if you like to fiddle with them.

I have swapped the pickups on both of my basses. I am very happy with my choices (Fender CS 60s in my MIM Jazz and Fender Vintage Originals in my CV60sP). However, in retrospect, i would have swapped strings first. So going forward with a new bass, I will get my choice strings and set up done and get used to the bass for a couple weeks before considering a pickup change.

By the way, I use Fender 7150 Pure Nickel strings on my Jazz and LaBella Jamerson Set Flats on my CV60sP. I ony have two basses, but if I had more I would like another Jazz and another Precision so I can have one of each with flats and one of each with rounds.

I think I tried one of those and it really was pretty good, something you'll rarely hear me say about Squiers.

On my MIM jazz it's Ernie Ball Slinkys all day....they kill it IMO... and they are a lower price point.

Hey! I've actually got the same exact bass, essentially brand new in the classifieds WITH Fender Custom Shop 60's pickups. You might be able to save yourself some $$$ and get the bass with upgrades.

View attachment 847780 So i go to my local gc and to my surprise they actually had 35 basses in stock (usually they are quite empty) so im messing around on a couple of four stringers (i only own and play a fiver at the moment) so the sales guy say hey man check this bass out he covered my eyes plugged me into a mark bass 4x10 and i started jamming away ,about 5-7 mins later i discovered i was playing a fender squire jazz bass 349$i had to do multiple double takes it sounded very good, he said just throw some after market strings on it and replace the pickups and your good to go,my question is since im not very knowledgeable with pickups, which pickups Would sound best on this passive bass i love the bassy growling tone and which strings would you recommend? ?????

I have one. I have DiMarzio model Js in it. It's a wonderful upgrade that I recommend. I play mine all the time. Rotosound 66s on it right now...good fit. (also, black plastic knobs make it look more legit)

yea man, 350 - 500 dollar basses are great..i don't own any multi-thousand dollar basses. I put a 100 dollar set of passive EMG pickups in my Spector Standard to get some better sound, and it sounds just as 'pro' as anything else. I think that if you like the way something feels and handles, you can put the best electronics available into it for a couple hundred bucks and have something just as good as anything else out there as far as play-ability and sound go.

I will say those new Jazz V from Squier are pretty amazing. I got to play one up against its American counterpart (a $1799 retail) and honestly, the Squier was every bit as good, especially considering the price. The feel on the necks were almost identical.

Reminds me of the time I was tryin out a guitar and the GC sales guy leaned over to make a tweak to the amp, and I was wearing shorts. ..the dude actually droooled on my knee. :/
