Cheap G&L necks, who's using them in builds?

Yeah I just checked the site a second ago and was giggling about the fact that us righties ate up all the righty necks.

I'm thinking I may have to order a 5 string neck for my Jazz V, the Jazz V had the original frets pulled out very poorly and I think the truss rod may not be working anymore. I just got the electronics done and the body refinished.

Anyone know if these have a rounded or flat nut slot? Thanks.

Does anyone know if these will fit Epiphone Thunderbird bolt-on bodies without modifications? I'm thinking about a Fenderbird -- they are Leo Fender necks, right? :^)

Thank OP for bringing this to our attention. I just ordered a maple 5 string, hopefully it is nice. I have been wanting to build me a nice 5 string but the neck is not the easiest thing to make so this will hopefully take the pressure off of that part of my build. I have some nice wood home I have been waiting to use. I have some bone for the nut too.

The Epi T bird is a 20 fret neck, so the neck pocket would have to be enlarged.

If your experience is like mine, it should be a nice neck. I found the fret ends a little ragged, but once I cleaned them up, it turned into a very nice neck. G&L does a nice job packing and shipping too. Ordered mine on a Sunday and they made it from west coast to east coast by Wednesday. Good luck with the build!

HOLY $$$$$, I didn't know anyone sold necks for that cheap, let alone G&L! That's cheaper than the Chinese brands I have seen........

Yep, I suspect the price is so cheap because they will only fit a G&L route. If they fit a Fender route, the price would be considerably higher and they would be sold out all the time. But with a router and a template, you can mount it on virtually anything.

I have one on the way to mount on one of those guitar fetish guitar body blanks. I figure a left handed neck, strung right on a strat-style body with a big-ole music man humbucker will be a nice bass to kick around. And all coming in under $100.....maybe I need to take pictures and enter in the build challenge.

The G&L necks for the Tribute series that are available for $30-33. I don't think you can buy the wood, truss rod and fret wire for what they sell 'em for. So, who's using them in builds?
I bought two, a RH and a lefty. On the righty, I found the tuner holes unevenly spaced, but other than that, a very useable neck for the money. I reshaped the headstock, and am very happy with it so far. I plan to use the lefty for a reverse headstock build and I think it will work great.
So, post your pics of your builds,
Here's my J neck on a P body w/ a J setup. I put it together (sans electronics) to confirm string spacing, intonation, etc. and it played great. I just did I the final sanding and am waiting on the perfect harmonic convergence of humidity and available time to do the finish.

I'm curious as to how far into the heel the anchor on the truss rod actually goes (it appears to be a traditional compression / one way rod), and if re-shaping to fit a Fender pocket / heel (yes, with considerable shortening) is a possibility...
