Cheap G&L necks, who's using them in builds?

Hey guys, I have a couple of these necks i ordered a few weeks back. A 5 string maple/rosewood and a 4 string maple/maple. I'm wondering what everyone is doing to finish them? Spraying lacquer over the top? oil? sand em down and start from scratch? leave it as is and play away?

I'm thinking to lacquer over the existing sealer but open to suggestions.....

I would just spray over the existing finish. Its not tinted at all, so you don't have to worry about matching colors if you do any reshaping.

Nope, reshaped the headstock, sprayed a coat, applied my logos and sprayed another coat. I have one more coat of clear to spray, then I am going to steel wool it until its a satin finish.

I am converting one to a fretless. They use no glue so the frets come out smoothly and easily. I will say this is where the $30 price tag shows it's ugly head. One thing is the board once the frets were out was pretty wavy. I had to use a long 24" sanding beam for about 30 minutes to get it flat and true. Cheaper necks seem to hide things like that with a fret leveling. I used birdseye veneer as fret lines and there was some varying colors in the wood after I hit it with the finish I'm putting on it. I'm building up a slight poly-rub finish that I'll build up to about 10 coats and then let cure for a couple days and wet sand back and buff out to a nice shine. Not as hard as polyester or epoxy but it will still sound like wood where I thought my old Pedulla lost that organic woodsy quality.

What tuners will work in these without doweling and re-drilling? I had a spare set off of a Squier but the bushings are too big
