Cheap G&L necks, who's using them in builds?

View attachment 592920I used one on a low budget build for myself. Did a complete fret level, adjusted the truss rod and achieved very low string action without any problems. The neck has been very stable. Best $33 I've ever spend... WOW that's a big pic!!!

Nice! Did you plug and redrill the headstock to use those tuners?

Yes I did. Used a dowel sanded to fit and redrilled...

Are they at least in the ballpark?
You couldn't just bolt it on because the 21st fret would throw the scale length off. On the P body I posted, it already had a Fender neck route when I got it. I made a template for the G&L neck and had to route about an inch further into the cavity to accommodate the 21st fret. I had to fill the sides of the existing pocket with veneer strips to tighten the pocket up. But this body was of questionable origins, so I'm not sure if the pocket was Fender dimensions to begin with.

I did this one, with a P bass style neck... (Fender bastard, there is a thread on it here somewhere).

Agree with the others on the neck pocket: It has to be routed for the G&L neck, you can't use a Fender style neck pocket. Check these pics for reference. In the first picture the pick guard is not yet routed for the G&L so this indicates Fender neck pocket, notice how the pocket ends just next to one of the screws holding the pick guard? Then see the second picture and notice how the neck now sits deeper in the body - relative to that same screw.

Thanks for letting me know! :)
