cheapest custom bass brand

I think I have decided I sent my Specifications to tom clement and it will cost me $1750 thanks for the help though guys

Eggsalent!!!
Now you have to head over to the Clement Owner's club thread and sign up there. As you'll see in the near future, Tom sends tons of photos so you can follow the progress of your build, and we Clement owners LOVE to see other people's progress pics!!

FWIW, Wish bass had a terrible review in Bass Player Magazine. Custom, yes. Cheap, yes. Good? I have heard no.

Well that had to be because the dudes at Bass Player didn't understand the Wishbass concept. If you are expecting an out of the box custom player, Wish ain't it!

A Wishbass is a joint creation venture with you and Steve. He gets it started and you finish it. And of course it's custom and just what you want because YOU finished it. And of course it's kool because you picked out one of Steve's designs (or had him do one of yours) that you loved. But if you are thinking along the lines of Carvin or Fender Custom Shop, you are WAY off base as to what a Wishbass is. (See the Wishbass thread here for a better feel for the thing)

Yes they DO "play" when you get them, but in that state they are only useful if you are into the "primitives" art thing. Even though Steve has formal training in instrument building, he's pretty good at doing the folk art thing.

It's easy to trash Wishbasses, because so many of them are bizarrely dysfunctional. But the underlying truth is that he has a pretty unique concept and design, that, with just a little extra effort, yields a very unique and spectacular playing and sounding bass. At a total cost of $300-$500. He's been around a while, and I'm told he just doesn't like to sand very much, who does? Where is the law that says string through holes have to be evenly spaced?

Even the infamous video posted in this thread, if you examine it with a forensic perspective, and look past the odd intonation, poor recording technique, and inebriated accompaniment, the inherent tone of the instrument is pretty cool. IMO

I reiterate: I've got to have more cow.

Hellz yeah! I dunno how an opportunity to plug Tom Clement and his awesome basses eluded me but it looks like the job was done just fine without my assistance ;). Glad to hear that you chose him as a builder, you really can't go wrong. Just for the heck of it, here's mine!
