Funny thing is, I thought the same thing after I saw it posted.

I better go to bed. As soon as I start getting all Mark Wilson, I've obviously spent entirely too much time on TB for one day.

So the Pontif mentioned that Vinny had made a P bass with a koa top but with the Fodera headstock and logo. I couldn't say for sure whether the koa in that pic is the whole body, or just a top. So being generous to the seller for a moment, perhaps the body was originally part of a bass built by Fodera; and perhaps later in its life the owner bought and added a bridge and some electronics stamped with the Fodera name; and perhaps the neck got snapped at a rowdy punk rock gig (where a koa-bodied Fodera would normally be found), and the owner had an old ESP neck lying around, and found that it fit well, and he sanded off the ESP logo; and perhaps he spent the better part of the 1970's and 80's in a booze and coke fueled haze, so when he said to the current owner that he played it in the 1970's, really he had no idea when or where he played it, just that it was a while ago.

Plausible? Plausibly deniable? :)

Everyone- keep the subject on the bass, not on each other/each other's posting styles/habits. I'm sure there's a TalkDebate forum somewhere on the internet for that.

Back to the Fodera/Fauxdera.

He already addressed this. I was just being silly in my previous post about it. His point being that Vinnie worked with Ken and Stuart previous to Fodera and neither builder (at the time, anyway) were doing any Fender like designs resembling the bass in question. That's all.

Can't speak to the neck joint issue.

hmm I think you have misconstrued what thepontif said.
To me he's saying if it's any weirder looking than those basses, as in setting a point between Fender and Spector/Ken Smith to which to him the design of the bass would logically fi.
also I assume Vinny wasn't fully toying with the idea of the Single cut basses during the late 70's - early 80's that it would fit as a marker as it were. Correct me if I'm wrong by all means, this is just how I viewed it

OK, I have to ask this...

If you had the pictures all along, why didn't you post them ?

You "do" realize that if you simply would have posted these photos earlier in the thread, then there wouldn't have been all this "back and forth" arguing.

Even if you didn't want to POST the pictures, it would have been easy enough to PM them to Just Thumpin', The Pontif, etc when they said things like -

The thread had pics up until the time the ebay sale was pulled. Early on I had right clicked on a couple of pics and pulled them onto my other computer (not my main one) to blow them up to see it I could get any better detail. I couldn't. I didn't remember SAVING them, only LOOKING at them. I already know... IMPOSSIBLE.

I have to ask this, if I were intentionally holding them and not posting them, why did I post them once I found them?

Just because many of you came to this late doesn't change how it all went down. IT STARTED OUT WITH A LINK TO THE AUCTION. Instead of leaving it up for verification, many went after the seller to get it shut down.

Frankly I didn't really read Mike's post all that well the first time around or I would've simply kept quoting it to smurf instead of banging my head against the wall.

My point all along. Intstead of merely forwarding the pics/auction to Jason/Mike/Vinny people went after the seller. There was ample opportunity to do that, maybe you'll now ask them why they didn't.
