I always used to kid Mica that Alembic must have the Fort Knox of wood aging in the back somewhere, or that this or that piece was actually wood from Mars. Like the axes pictured previously, they do some of the most amazing book-matches I've ever seen. The 'face' on the back of this one kills me every time I look at this picture.

Even in a underground metal scene you show up with that people gonna laugh and maybe throw empty cans.
The shape is so ugly it would never get stolen so that's a plus.
12lbs too.

Definitely the bass to use when I debut my Mayhem cover band.

Extraordinary work. But looks like it ought to be in The Hobbit.

The Tolkien-esque aspect of Alembics has always been a turn-off for me. I can just picture the guys at Alembic taking D&D breaks between shapings.

This is typical of Alembic quality. I don't particularly care for the triple omega body; the omega cut behind the bridge makes for a very long reach to the first fret. Alembic will make anything you want. The company has a number of fairly typical body shapes as well. I'm partial to the Europa/Elan body shape. The first two below are in Macassar ebony and vermillion, respectively; or, for the metal folks, black (like those ordered by Jason Newstead).
