Hi.

I sent a mail to Hanson asking for the price and the possibility to get from Spain a set of chi-sonics pickups (single coil) for a Jazz bass but have had no reply yet.

Can anyone advice how to get this pickups from Europe?

I have only owned one bass equipped with single-coils and don't recall playing any humbuckers (stuff played in Doug's basement on a certain one afternoon doesn't count). Some of you surely have played both, could you enlighten me?

The reason? Well, my life is about as open a book as anyone else these days. GASing for the next next bass, and very interested in the new DJ4s, but only if I opt for the upgrade to chis. I once had a DJ4 with the regular pickups and I don't want to do that again.

So, if anyone out there would care to comment, please do... thanks for helpin out a sick brother in need of info.

I have HB/SC switchables. For me, the SC's are thinner but clearer, the HB's are thicker and thumpier. But the switched SC apparently have a little different tone that straight SCs.

I had SC's in a JO5 and they were awesome w/nickels. In my semi-hollow Mahogany, I use the HB's more and it has Chromes (actually the exact set that used to be on your 55-02!).

What Grateful said.... plus I'll add a little. The singles and buckers should be thought of as 2 different beasts altogether. A good question would be: are you a single coil kinda guy? Do you love jazz basses or '51 SC style P basses? Or do Stingrays w/ 1 or 2 big humbuckers appeal to you more?

Yeah. I'm very familiar with the EBMM humbucker sound, and I like it. But I have that covered in the collection. I guess I'm turning out to be a very picky person when it comes to pickup noise. I hate it, drives me nuts. I must have had 3or 4 jazz basses pass thru that for one reason or another I end up offing because I don't like the tone, the hum, or the neck profile. Maybe I should just admit to being a p- bass guy and end the fascination with the jazzes.

I was gonna mention how my HB Chi equipped Decade 5er proto had a very P bass-ish sound when soloing the neck p'up. That bass is long gone :-/.

I personally can't stand 1.75" nutwidth basses, LOVE 1.625", and won't complain about 1.5".

Sounds like you need a 4-07 (or is it renamed 44-07 now?). Either way... you can get the nut width you want, and the humbucker in the neck position is sure to please! The bridge p'up will kill also :-).

I have a 44-07.
I hear they only made a small handful of them.
Is the nut width reeeeally 1.75" on a 44-07 ???
It feels more narrow?
I know the neck is very thin. ( in depth )
As is the neck on my US Scheff.
The necks on those two feel a lot alike.

The active Chibuckers on the 44-07 are amazing.
Other than the US HB w/Dstars I think the 44-07 would have to be my Favorite Lakland.

No no no, I didn't say that a 4-07 has a 1.75" nut. Should be 1.625", but you can get whatever you want on a US build. A 4-07 is just a 4-94 routed for dual Chis. No biggie to cut different pickup holes in an existing body shape..... like having a P made into a P/J.

Ahhhhh
Cause it does not feel at all like a P neck.
Super slim and super fast!

I need measure the widths on these necks...

Yeah I knew that the 44-07 is just a small batch of 44-94's with CHiSonics.
There is no special serial number for the 44-07 run either.
The just numbered them in with the 44-94's.

44-94s have 1.625" nuts (unless special ordered), so your 44-07 should be 1.625 also.

Man... I gotta try an 07 someday! I guess Sexual Chocolate is sorta the equivalent to a 55-07 w/ MM style p'up cases??
