New member here. I'll be there with my 80's era stuff: a fretless Ibanez Musician and a Washburn Force 40 through a Marshall 3540. I double on upright so I'm likely headed to a fEARful and I'd love to hear one up against the Avatar TB153!

Bazillion choices ranging from $75 to $300, usually commensurate with quality. What's the budget?

I will be bringing a really sweet Schroeder 1515+L for y'all to play and listen to. Will consider selling for the right offer, start discussion at $600.

It is rated 800W @ 4 ohm, but seems to require an amp stable down to 2 ohms. I will also be bringing along a Stewart World 2.1, which each channel is 625W @ 4 ohms, stable down to 2 ohms. Package deal will be entertained.

Bob, I have nothing specific to recommend, but I know folks who have scored surprisingly good rates (under $150) at hotels on Michigan Ave. in the vicinity of the Hancock tower. Obviously, that's a great location for a weekend in the city. I would think mid-March would be a good time to get deals like that.

I just stayed in Chicago last Saturday night after the Darkness show at the Metro, went on Hotwire and got a 4.5-star place right on Michigan in the Magnificent Mile for just over $100 with taxes and fees. Valet parking wasn't cheap ($57 a night ), but everything else was great. There were 3- to 4-star places available for cheaper too. I highly highly recommend Hotwire in such situations, check it out.

Is Navy Pier and any attractions or things to see on N. Michigan Ave, a manageable and safe walk after dark from the Grant Park/Millenium Park area (good rpice on a 4-star hotel on hotwire)? We're thinking of making a weekend of it and arriving Friday evening.

That's a pretty good hike, at least a mile from Millenium Park to Navy Pier. While it's not dangerous around there down to like 10 pm, I'd still recommend a cab just for the distance and the time.

Agreed. The entire downtown area from Roosevelt to Chicago Ave and east of Halstead is perfectly safe for walking at night with your wife. Certainly from 6am to 10pm.

Navy Pier itself requires a mile or more of walking just at the Pier area alone. If you are moderately athletic and like exploring the city by walking, I'd consider stops for a quick bite or a drink.

I think what I'm running into, is some spring break price hikes + weekend. And from Friday to Saturday, some hotels increase significantly on the Saturday night. RW: the hotel you recommended was $197 on Fri and $233 on Sat for the king for that weekend. Thanks though.
