Double Bass Chicago Jazz Clubs

This novice DB player is going to Chicago in october (weekend of the 11th). Any suggestions for jazz clubs, etc? We will be staying in the Gold Coast area and walking and/or taking the metro from there.

ps - of course, I find out after booking my flight that there's a gazillion people descending on the Windy city for a marathon that weekend. Sheesh...

There are two jam sessions Sundays at Andy's on Hubbard St. from 5PM on. Invalid Link Removed

Also, an after hours session on Friday at the Greenmill at 1:30AM.

Nice - thanks. I'm also pondering about getting down to the Jodie Christian tribute. Never having been to Chicago, how easy/hard is it to get from downtown (south Franklin) to West Pullman Park and back with transit? We could cab it but it seems like an expensive option.

It's a very long way. I don't know the Pullman Park neighborhood and I've never taken public trans in that direction, so can't help much...

I will say there is equally good music closer to downtown.

I had, of course, a great time in Chicago. The well-known jazz hangouts do not disappoint : Andy's, Green Mill. It's all I could hit up in a 3 night stay although we saw the wonderful Hochberg Trio at Catch 35. Eric's playing had a subtle beauty that defies description and is worth hearing for yourself. Clearly, these chaps have a good time playing together.

All in all, so much music around that in a short stay, I couldn't fit in a visit to Buddy Guy's place.

Bumping rather than starting a new thread. Gonna be in Chicago downtown probably mid-late July a couple days then maybe on to NYC. Andy's and Green Mill still topping the list? Any other joints to think about?
