I've lived in the Chicago area my entire life and went there for the first time last year. I couldn't believe what I was missing out on.

I was in Chicago and stopped by…what an awesome store with a great staff!

First of all, they have the kind of basses people really want to play Fender Custom Shop, Nash, Sandberg, Musicman, Dingwall, Hofners and so much more…

And get this…you can grab a bass off the wall (that isn't locked or too high to reach) and try it out without having to ask anyone for help! Crazy!


They have private rooms with a few different amps where you can plug in and put basses through their paces…

Lived in Chicago from '78 -'88. Back then it was a small shop in the same location IIRC. Over the years they expanded into a premier guitar showroom. I re-visited over 10yrs ago and they handed me a '62 J ($20k) and plugged me into a nice amp in a room by myself. I think they know that anyone who walks in there could flash a gold-card so they treat everyone nice. I used to enjoy their vids w/Batman - very fun.

Got to visit. Great experience. Here's a few pics. The bass I'm playing is a 65 P bass that is really sweet. The last picture is what I ended up buying. Fender Custom Shop P w a jazz neck.

I've never been but this would definitely be on my list for stores to visit. I like the fact that they have an expansive selection and that you can navigate your way through without waiting for someone to help. I get why some stores do that but it's tedious if you want to try out a bunch of stuff.

Yep, I pulled the 1965 right off the wall and took it to the amp room to play, along with a number of custom shops. This picture was a 1970 they have (which is cool to me as a birth year bass). However, the neck was a bit wide for my tastes.

One last picture. Left is the Fender Custom Shop I purchased, and on right was a Sandberg that I will say sounded fantastic.

Nice! That custom shop looks sweet. A P-bass with a jazz neck is something that I would go for as well. I have a Sandberg TM4 and can attest to how awesome they sound.
