I am not a "Rick guy", as all of my Basses are Japanese Fenders and one Bacchus. But in light of both of those things stated, I have thought these are a possibility for me.

Hope the link works. :)

Between $600-$700USD.

Being they are Japanese, you would think they would be good quality. The Chickenbakers are not worth it. You dump 300-400 on a craps shoot. Even if it is a decent guitar, you probably need new pups and wiring and work on the neck. At that point, you are half way to a real Rick

Those basses in the link are made in China according to the sticker n the back of the headstock picture. I doubt there's much of in increase in quality.

To the OP: Spend your money as you like.
I had a 70's Ibanez Ric copy, 2 recent Euro copies and a real, big time Made In The USA Ric.
The only one that I miss is the 70' Ibanez Knock off.
The Chinese knock-off stuff might be rubbish,
But might be good too.

Just tying this detail off. Good to know if you are outside the US. Dead horse = more dead.

From What's wrong with buying counterfeit goods? | ShareAmerica

“In France and Italy, the penalty for purchasing a counterfeit item can be as much as 300,000 euros [$322,176] and, in France, even jail time,” adds Susan Scafidi, an expert on international fashion law who directs the Fashion Law Institute at Fordham University Law School in New York.

According to the blog nepaliaustralian, a tourist was fined $1,450 for buying a fake Louis Vuitton handbag for $10 in Italy. “Officers taking part in a crackdown on counterfeit goods observed the transaction through binoculars,” the blog reports."

Primusssucks9126.........

I stand corrected.... and embarrassed! I totally missed that image showing "MADE IN CHINA".

I thought I had a real find there! Well, that's what I get for climbing out from under my rock and trying to help.

I guess I'll go back to my hole and spoon with my Steve Harris collection.

Cheers,

I BASSically suck something AWFUL

I agree that buying a copy of a bass thats been out of production for 50 years isnt theft. Also for consideration is the fact that rics will sell for high prices regardless of whatever copies are made, because only a ric is a ric!

I agree, It would be a different story if Rickenbacker was current selling this product.
I still think it is a waste of money.
I do not support counterfeit items with my $$

While I would never buy one... you would be surprised at the quality of a lot of the newer Chinese fakes.

A guitarist in my old band for some reason loves these things. He bought a few Gibson les paul copies for around 200 bucks. The electronics were legit epiphone. Damn thing played great and sounded very good. Pretty much equal to a 500 dollar epiphone with Gibson on the headstock. They are not the unplayable firewood they used to be.

With the fakes becoming better it might be harder to tell real from fake in future guitars. Especially people who are new to equipment. Just something to be aware of on the used market.

Of course - if you're not paying for the IP, you are saving money. Assuming you get one of the "good" ones.

For me, and a few others on this site, getting a fakenbacker was just a holding place until we could afford a real ric. I wonder how many people who own ric copies go on to buy rics, either new or used (I got mine used, so I guess I never gave RIC any of my money)

We've all seen tons of 4001/4003 fake rics from china, japan, europe, whatever. However, until I stumbled across this, I've never seen a 4005 copy.

This is the only picture I could copy and paste. It's close, but clearly not a ric.

Thoughts? Anyone have one?
Looks cheap and crappy. The proportions are all wrong, which isn't surprising, given that they couldn't even put the bridge pickup on their 4003 copies in the right place.
