Chinese Bass!

Even though morality cannot be legislated nor enforced by a website, I agree that this is not a victimless crime of at least some sort.

It's been good to know that these bogus units are available and for that reason alone, it's a good place (here) to get this practice out into the light of day - especially to n00bs and/or their parents who may think they've got or are getting a great deal ---- but aren't.

Playability, quality of parts, paint, wood and all have got to be inferior in ways that aren't obvious to someone just starting out or the parents of their 'future musical artist' buying something out of ignorance.

That's how I feel - ban it or not, but it's all good info.

I will never buy one of these "illegal" brands when I van go get a reasonable prices squier, epi, ibby or any of the numerous other economical priceed, great quality instruments!!!

I would think though that with a thread on TB talking about these "illegal" basses would not be positive advertising for the company building them. It would more or less bring attention to the fact that they are being made and with everyone commenting on them it actually make people not.want to buy them so that they don't get ripped off. Which in the end would be a positive out come. So maybe it is not a bad thing and it will actually hurt these "illegal" builders sales. Then again that maybe wishful thinking.

I myself would never buy one and I think it is wrong for a company to get away with making illegal copies and then trying to pass them off as the real thing. The problem as I see it there is not much that can be done about it, as long as.certain countries governments condone it in there country. The only thing we can do is bring awareness to what is going on.

I will stick with my Fenders, squiers, Peaveys and Ibbys!!! At least I know they, along with other established brands, are being manufactured legally.

Edit: was putting this togeather before I saw Surferjoes reply. I agree with your statement!!!

probably lead based paint too. someone should check into that sort of stuff as well. Imagine that a chinese knockoff that's a health hazard as well.

My M-Audio monitors came with a note that read "California residents must wash their hands after handling these speakers".

This lead me to believe that either Cali residents have stricter environmental codes or the speakers are owned by a Cali company that is trying to kill us all before they fall into the Pacific along with most of my double wide. I don't live in Cali, but I'm sure my house will give up anyway.

To the OP, I hope the bass is good and if you ever sell, please make it so it cannot ever be passed off as legit. There are so many good counterfeits these days. I totally understand buying a great instrument at a really great price. I did so when I bought a Fender MIM RW 50's P.
The good thing about it is that the body is stamped RW under the PG ( I think ). Never the less. If I ever part ways with it. I will sell it as a road worn P. Not a '57 Fender. Most here will call me a poser for owning this bass. I'd love to say it's real but... It's not. Heck I don't have to worry about getting scratched or what not 'cuz it's already scratched. So you got a USA fake. If it plays and sounds good at a fraction of the cost, play the heck out of it! Beat it,sticker it, scratch your name in it! Do what you want and know all the while it was a bargain. Just never try to pawn it off as real. I have my MIA's and worry about getting them nicked and stolen so if I take my RW out I worry less but, these days even a MIM cost a bunch to replace and my RW is becoming part of me so much that I would hate to lose it.

So rock that faker. Where are the fake roadworns? Lol. That will be the day!

What I want to see is fake tube heads for a mere fraction of what the new and vintage go for!!

Now do they make a comparable cheap and reliable fake tube head? Cuz if if I'm gonna blow money it will be on slave labor hand wired point to point old school electronics! Why not? For a few bucks if it blows up.... In the trash it goes. Just like your old phone.

Im kidding.

Fakes are never going away. Let's face it.
( lawsuit basses people? They just used clever names instead).

Buyer beware, thanks for reading my silliness. Flame on.

Peace,Wyatt.

BTW, I've been to china. Try to get an iPhone, better yet... A garden hose. Yes. A hose!

Something I find interesting: When you search youtube at all the videos of individuals that have purchased Les Paul copies, The only complaints are pickups, tuning keys and bridge. Also when you look at China's guitar factories all the instruments are made by hand, and American factories are mostly machines. In no way am I justifying how they are ripping off American brands, If you search "5 strings bass" add the "S" on strings ha! you will find all sort of copies, Warwick, fender, alembic, fodera, spector etc.

On youtube you can find a lot of individuals reveling the un packaging of these copies I find it interesting non the less.

I do appreciate you posting the pics. Truly amazing.
While I am somewhat impressed, at least in the photos, at the quality of the cosmetics and the boldness of the Chinese it is deeply bothersome that such products exist and people buy them. Imagine some poor sucker that buys something this on resale as a legit Fender.
I would not even consider purchasing one. That said... I took a minor beating once when I asked about how one would go about replacing a Squier logo with a Fender one (it was just a question! LOL!), so I am hardly one to comment on ethics :-)

This all goes to show how ravenous people get over a brand name. Oh man it says fender on it! But they wouldn't think of buying it without the fender decal.

Then there are the guys who can't live without it, and go ahead and put one on the bass that they did buy, without a Fender logo.

It reminds of a time when a female friend of mine said "hey look at my new shirt, isn't it cute?!

its a T-shirt

"But its Ralph Lauren!"

Its a blue T-shirt with white letters on it. I didn't mean to be a buzz kill, but it was a good 5 minutes of explaining why I wasn't reciprocating her excitement.

and then there's the guys that spend thousands on vintage Fenders. Again, for the name. Half the time they are in pretty sad shape. They are buying into pretention and some imagined "feeling' or something. I mean, its not like every 60's fender is solid gold, super playable artifact of tone. For thousands, I'd much rather pay somebody like Lull to build me a dream machine, that's brand new, tailored for me.
