Chinese Rickenbacker bass

I had a quiestion for those ones that own or owned a Rickenbacker bass replica, is at least the body durable?, the pickups and electronics, can be replaced or changed to give you the tone of a original Rick, but if the wood is completely ******, it wont be more than a waste of money, so, what do you think or know about it?, should it be a good inversion?

I have a 1983 4001 rickenbacker a dillion rick copy and a Chinese 4003 rick copy I just bought for $325.00 delivered and I tell you it plays better than the dillion that I paid $800.00 for and almost as good as my 1983. for the price go for it the action is low and body is mahogany. check out dhgates and type in 4003 bass they have many different types. good luck

Be careful, do your research, and you can get some great basses. They are Squier quality basses, and with electronic upgrades can sound quite nice.

you can go to dillionguitars com and check them out quite reliable , use a seller with high sales, the money is held by dh gates till shipping conformation code is sent to you. And keep in mind it is not a real rick but your paying 325 compared to 1800

Search 4003 bass, ricken bass ect. You'll see dozens. Purchase from vendors that sell only instruments and ones with lots of positive feedback (like eBay)
They too hold your funds in "escrow" till you get your item. When you are satisfied, you release payment to the vendor. I've bought a few off this site in the past and never had a problem getting the instruments. They come from China, so be prepared to wait a couple weeks. They provide a tracking system too.

I have a real 4003 but I wouldnt mind a cheapo to beat on, the only reason why I have ordered one of these or a knock off gibson is my fear of losing my money as in no item ever comes.

Did you guys know the body of those Dillion Guitars Ric knockoffs is Pine with Mahogany neck? Never heard of that as a tone wood combo before. How does it play?

I know I'm a bit of a weenie about this stuff, but I am friends with a few small luthiers that cling perilously to their trade, and feel protective of them.

I feel the same way about low-volume manufacturers like Dingwall, Rickenbacker, Genz Benz (sniff!), etc.

I would feel a heck of a lot better about that Australian video, if the knock-off at least didn't have a Rickenbacker logo on the headstock. So wrong on so many levels...

Gents, I just got a Chinese 4004 Lemmy from Dhgate from something called Jugg Guitar...they are pretty highly rated. They built it from scratch for me, sent me pics during the build and finally got it to me 2 months later. The wait was obscene, but for 400 bucks (no case), I am beyond happy. I have a real 4003 and a 4004 and the Lemmy copy is about as good as them if not as good. I kid you not. The body is heavy which is the only ding on this one, but it is walnut with a maple neck through. The three pickups are probably a Korean Rick knockoff and are humbuckers that sound VERY close to my 4004's pickups, but are a bit more aggressive (hotter). The thing is just about perfect. It is beautiful, it plays very nicely, it is a bit heavy, buy comfortable and looks to be made as well as anything here. With that said, let me just leave a caveat that if I had been screwed on this or if customs had stopped it, I would have been out 400 bucks so there is a risk. Furthermore, do not buy from any seller with only a few (or less) reviews. There are great sellers, but be sure that you choose one because there are horror stories out there of people being ripped off or getting subpar equipment.

I, however, am beyond happy with mine. The bass is easily worth at least double what I paid for it.
