Choosing Bass

I'm a real fender guy, but for you I'd probably go with the bubinga warwick. It's such a great price for a very versatile bass. Either that or the fender would be a great choice. It should come down to which one sounds better to you and perhaps as importantly, which one feels the most comfortable.

played a few more basses yesterday and it really is NOW coming down to a Warwick Corvette, a Fender Jazz, or a Fender P-Bass. If I go Fender I haven't decided on the exact model. but I do like the neck on the a few of the Jazz Basses I played. The P-Bass is also a serious consideration..perhaps a PJ? I did also play a Jazz Deluxe (active pu's, ash body) which was very good. The quest continues.

PRS basses look weird as a monkey in a trenchcoat

i have heard only a few things about them, but to me they fall into the 'parker fly' category of basses........ cool guitars but fail as basses.

if it were my cash id have to say one of the warwicks, whichever fits you better.

yeah i've played a few prs basses and they have a weird feel and a blah sound considering the guitar's rep and the price of the bass. i have played a bunch of warwicks and own a 4 string warwick streamer stage 1 nt ( maple body rosewood board with p/j pickup configuration ) and i think the warwicks are a great bass. i also have a fender jazz, but given my choice between a jazz and a corvette, i would take the corvette any day of the week if i had to pick.

Get the warwick, maybe even the used one if its in good condition.

I have no idea bout the PRS bass, but the Warwick will hold its value more so than the Ibanez I would think.... plus the warwicks sound really wicked.

Just throwing a couple of more options your way here. The Lakland 44-01 and 44-02 are also very good basses that work well in multiple settings. The 44-02 can be had used for a very reasonable price IMO.

IMHO,I just don't think you can go wrong w/a P or J-Bass,when it comes to laying down some tracks.
The studios I do work for ALWAYS breathe a *sigh* of relief when I break out the ol' Fender.
Just a couple of twists of the knobs,and you are good to go.

Well it's been a while since I visited this thread, but I figured I might as well post what I did end up with......an EBMM Sterling! This bass was on the list but the $$$ kept me from getting serious. However, I stumbled into a very good deal on one and it now lives with my other guitars. It is white/maple neck/HH configuration. Sounds and plays amazing. So very happy right now. Next time it will most likely be a P-bass!

Do yourself a favor and check out a G&L L-2000. Talk about versatile.. It would easily cover everything you mentioned and then some. It's the "swiss army knife" of basses. The MFD pickups absolutely kill. Seriously, try to find one and give it a test drive.
