I'll repeat the sentiment I posted in the other thread: While I hoped he would turn out alright, I don't necesarily feel all that sorry for him either - He's made a lifetime of bad decisions, and one of them finally caught up to him.

I think Chris Henry was pretty sad myself. I just make it a point to respect all lives, whether they belong to people I like or not.
As for your opinion of Henry, you are more than welcome to it. I just felt that you needed to say what you thought upfront or you should have said nothing.

I pretty much care whenever anyone dies, dude. Many times I don't know they've died.... Other times I don't know them. But that doesn't diminish the loss of life. As to the "hero worship" crap, I stopped collecting baseball cards a long time ago. This guy played football for a living. This guy was also a father, a son, etc.... and for you to reduce him to a "low life criminal" says far more about you than it does about him.

And saying I dont have forgivness or compassion, lol. Tell that to all the families of the dead Marines of whose funerals I had to attend in order to pay my respects. Tell that to all the children in Uganda and the Congo where I went to to help build schools and nurseries and soccer fields. Tell that to the countless women I encountered and helped while working at a battered womans home.

I do not feel sad at every loss of human life. I don't buy into the "everyone deserves a second, third, fourth chance" bs either. Maybe he was turning his life around, but that doesn't balance things out. None of my family or friends except one ever needed a third chance ironically enough.
One of our good friends was arrested for beating his wife. None of us spoke to him again, nor attended his funeral after he committed suicide. I was glad that he was dead.

IMO, Chris Henry was a thug with a high-paying job- that's it. Maybe he didn't deserve to die, and I feel bad for the people who loved and cared for him, but the all the crap he was into, was anything less expected?

Because of AIDS and guerilla activity, the national average age in Uganda is 14. The country is filled to the brim with orphans, and non profit schools are must for the continuing education of these children. The particular DARA/Truth school that I worked at was extremely overcrowded and was in dire need of a nursery due to all the infants and toddlers. The building you see being built is that nursery. With the help of 3 friends and a crew of Ugandan men (who only only spoke Swahili I might ad) we were able to accomplish the job with no tools other than make shift ladders, shovels, and wheel burrows. All mortar was mixted by hand and manually applied to the brick.
I currently sponsor 5 children from the school as well. It costs $300 American for one year of school at Truth, and $900 American a year for DARA. Most of the doners however come from an Irish program called Fields of life (www.fieldsoflife.com). Me and my 3 buddies were the first Americans to have ever worked in this area due to its location North of the Nile River. Great pics.....and some great socially significant work, obviously. It makes the attitude even more confusing. Where is the disconnect? I don't understand. You clearly have compassion for those who struggle to help themselves. Why no compassion for CH? His struggles have been well documented. No one here has tried to minimize them, at all. Where does the zero tolerance policy begin? When you make one mistake? Two? Are felonies your breaking point? Do contributions to worthy causes help balance the scales.
Seriously, I'm more confused than I was before. Actually, it was easier before. I could just file you as an A-hole (just like you have me slotted, I bet). Now, I don't know what to think.
but it would appear that his actions are,and that seems to be more important.....i think his point is that there are lots of folks to feel sorry for who never had a shot at anything and pampered pro athletes seem to garner a lot more sympathy for acting like thugs than whole regions of people who have never even had enough to eat
