I wonder how many of us could stand up and say they've never played a Chuck Berry tune in one band or another. I certainly couldn't and I'd be very surprised if many musicians in my age-group could.

i had the pleasure of meeting chuck berry on several occasions (booking related) and playing with him on a few more (just like fhm555 and bobyoung53 described). he was the opposite of pretentious, never seemed to sweat the small stuff, and always supported those who were supporting him = on stage or off. a rascal at times, but always a gentleman, fundamentally: "please and thank you." and he was always patient while the money was being counted!

Just to let you know what Germany thinks about a "guitar playing negro" ...

Only because our second top party has elected its candidate now, the GREAT CHUCK BERRY became topic no.2 (but with the same time and honor!!!) in all German news broadcastings ...

Surely 80% or more of German guitar players learnt Chuck Berry songs - and we know about the influence on the Beatles and many more!
