Chunk's Octavius Squeezer: "Sound Clips & Settings Thread"

The OS definitely bleeds when fed a hot signal. I couldn't hear it with my Jazz bass, or in the middle of my two boards, but when it was just my Pbass into the OS to my amp, there was bypass bleed. If you changed presets while bypassed, you could still faintly hear most of them- go to an empty preset, and no bleed. I never noticed it though when it was 8th in line, out of about 15 pedals- never heard the bleed on my board and completely forgot about it until the day I got the Brown Dog.

I just got the Brown Dog, and noticed the same problem when trying the pedal out with just my Pbass and into my amp-- bleed in every setting, higher gain=more noise. My active Jazz has less output than the Pbass doesn't make it bleed (i haven't noticed it anyway in the short time ive used it), and I don't think anyone would ever hear it in a band context, but the problem definitely exists, however small it may be.

i could hear it when using a passive jazz, as well as with a warwick with low-output passive pickups :(

not happy to be reporting this. I have high hopes for a Mark II OS once these issues have been dealt with

i'd love to hear the bootsy patches though :D

If I get time tomorrow I will.

The biggest pain is that it tracks the slight sharpening of a note when you mute the string (sounds bad generally but also makes the release portion of the ADSR on the VCA useless, since the whole release phase will be played out of tune).

It also sometimes glitches during note attack which can produce some very weird results if you've got the portamento settings on (play a note and it takes a second to glide up two octaves to hit it!).

Hi guys

I already owned the Brown Dog & Agent 00 Funk, before I bought the Squeezer. As I own several synthesizers (V-Synth GT & Novation Xiosynth), I just can't afford to keep the Squeezer on my board... :( :(

So if anyone (from Europe) is interested in a sweet deal, PM me.

I've been silently following this thread for months now.

After becoming utterly obsessed with the Octavius Squeezer, i finally got round to scrimping and saving to get one of my own. I proceeded to blow all of that money on beer and trinkets and then sunk myself deep into my overdraft to get one regardless. But I digress. It can certainly make some fantastically absurd noises.

Unfortunatlely, the chunk systems website seems to have gone down (on the same day that my pedal arrived as it happens) so i'm flying without the guidance of the manual. Also, i'm not sure if i'm on the latest firmware (i think mine says V1000.009 or something like that).

Anyone happen to have any nice insider information on this?

Chunk are still alive and well, I got an email from Richard Cartwright this morning. Strange that the website's disappeared.

Thanks to both of you.

The site appears to be back up now and i'm happily honking and screaming away on my OS (the cats love it!). Not quite had time to work through the manual with the pedal in front of me, but i did read through it in anticipation when i was waiting for it to arrive.

I'll be sure to post the recipes for any interesting noises i manage to cook up.

Still trying to find a decent balance for the tracking though; as has been established before, ADSR seems to just lap up them subtle harmonics when you release a fret.

I am in love with the pre-set "There is no Dana, only Zuul". For the sound and for the Ghostbusters reference.

Richard Cartwright suggested adding a bit of portamento if you're using the release phase of ADSR, so at least it will take a while for the note to sharpen and might be less noticeable. I tried it but wasn't convinced, I think I'll wait and see if they come up with a software solution to it.

Yeah that's probably the best of the default presets. Also if you've got an OC-2, try running "Destroy Them My Robots" into it with the oct-1 and direct levels up. The OC-2 will track it surprisingly well, and it sounds enormous.

So I've been watching the hype with this pedal for around a year now. After reading through this thread and listening to the various clips, I'm very disapointed.
The other day I was watching a band called STEEZ from Madison Wi. the analog synth tones where amazing from the bassist. He showed me his effects and it was the pedal I've wanted for years.....The creamiest deep thickest tones.....
Akai deep Impact, oooh my poor wallet!!!
So far it still reigns supreme from my ears perspective.

When I had the OS, I used the OC-2 in place of it's octaver, so my order would definitely be bass-oc2-os. It's fattens up the Squeezer nicely and tracks better than the OS's built in octave. But hey, different strokes for different blokes :p

It took me a while to decide on selling the Octavius, but I have to say that since I sold it I haven't looked back, especially since getting the Brown Dog- Great fuzz pedal... but still not 100% sold on it. The search continues.. :ninja:

The OC-2 also tracks the Brown Dog very well when set to a relatively tight/"clean" fuzz- makes it sound like a warm/not-too-harsh squarewave octave.

Hello bassynth lovers!

I just got an OS, but it is freezing all the times...:(
Impossible to use more than 1 minute.

Current firmware is v001.004. (when i start the unit).

I sent an email to Chunk but as my unit is an used one, i don't know if they are going to help me.
I am waiting for their reply.

I just want to know if my firmware is an old one and if my freezing problem will be solved with the latest one. (?)
If someone has the latest firmware and can send it to me, it would be nice!
