Class D "digital" amps. Opinions on performance

that's a matter of opinion.

it's pretty hard to carry a cab on a bus that will (IMO) sound better and have equal volume to an ampeg SVT/810 cab.

With all due respect, i very much disagree with that comment, i use a gk mb800 , neo 2/2x12 and i have had several players that own that very rig tell me that it is just as loud and while it does sound a little different sounds almost just as good. I know that you ampeg svt 8x10 guys will go to your grave denying the fact that there can be gear that may be better but its a new day with new gear that is very good! and my mb8 weighs 4.9 pounds and doesnt need $300 worth of 6550's every year something that an svt owner can never say!

Better is a matter of taste. Question. How often do we use our rigs at maximum output?

you can disagree all you want (everyone's entitled to their opinion). i have several neo cabs (a 4x12 w/2512 II's), two 2x10's w/2510's, a 2x12 with 3012LF's, a 2x15 w/3015's and an accugroove whappo jr. w/neo speakers) and unless it's a fearful 1212/6 or a whappo jr., IMO,there's no way a common neo 2x12 can put out the SPL of an 810.

and BTW, i gig with my '07 SVT ALOT, and play thru it for a couple of hours everyday and it's original output tubes are still running and sounding like the day that i bought it.

I wouldn't want to carry either on a bus. Let alone just carry. You would have a mad bus driver too. BTW, how much can one carry on a bus?

Who plays at full volume?Beats me ask him, thats why i use eplugs, but when i do need to max the volume the mb8 delivers, ask anyone who owns one

i never said that anyone needs to play at full volume, but in large auditoriums or outdoor gigs, some people need ALOT more SPL than someone can 'hand carry' on a city bus.

my response was to seamonkey's statement:

"You can carry with you on a city bus your complete bass and rig that will outperform in both sound quality and volume of anything that had to be hauled in trucks and vans years ago."

Thats TWO gk neo 2x12s, and yes im sure they are the original tubes , my point is from the perspective of an amp thats on the road, traveling to gigs on hot, cold dusty bumpy roads and all, not sitting at home. didnt mean to ruffle feathers. and again with all due respect!!! but IMHO sir you are wrong,

This is degenerating. anyone do some controlled comparisons. And on qualities like head room, transient reponse. Control at low frequencies? Quality after a 3 hour run lets say?
SVT's don't really fall into that discussion. Too bad we don't all have roadies. Or really strong girlfriends who are dedicated to service.

so you're going to carry two neo 2x12's on a bus?

and obviously, IMO, you have zero experience with SVT's. BTW, my SVT doesn't 'sit at home' and has seen plenty of bumpy roads and hot & cold nights, and i haven't had a single issue with it.
