Cleaning older Gotoh tuners?

I did a search here but couldn't find anything on this. I have a '92 bass with Gotoh tuners on it. When I tune it, the tuners feel a bit "sticky", like they don't want to move, but then they move too much.

Has anyone tried cleaning/repairing these old Gotohs? Or is my best option to replace them?

i know its an old thread but i'm working on this now. put s tiny Allen key thru the hole in the top where you sick the string and whack it with a rawhide or rubber mallet, the back will pop off, then you can clean and lube it with white grease, put the back cover back on with a drop of superglue or something. warning, may dent the cover plate, but if the tuner sucks who cares?

or drill a pinhole to add 3 in 1 oil. or sewing machine.
