and the war begins.......nope.. cliff was just a god among men, and in comparison, newsted is the scum of the earth.
I love how people bash Newsted yet he can play any song Cliff wrote. Metallica wouldn't have picked Newsted if couldn't handle the gig.

I think that they (Newsted and Cliff) are not really comparable in the same way that you cannot compare New York style pizza with a Chicago style pizza. Both are delicious and have their pros, but each definitely has their flaws as well. If one is more biased towards one style, the other may be looked down upon by said man/woman looking down upon it.

He helped write doomsday for the deceiver which means he definitely did deserve it.
One of my buddies was the #2 guy after Jason got the nod from Metallica. My friend, Jerry, is an incredible bass player, probably better than Jason, BUT Jason is a great bass player. No one will ever be able to fill Cliff's shoes, same with Randy Rhoads, John Bonham, Darrell Abbott, etc....

yep. hes horrible. he surely didnt help the downfall of metallica. ive never liked him or anything he ever did.
a troll comes in and derails a thread for no reason. we were discussing cliff's basses, and apparently one of them was unfairly given to newsted. thats on topic.. albeit mean and likely from everyone elses perspective ignorant.. but hey.. its the internet.

back on track.. i wonder if that was wired stereo or mono, and how much of the mudbucker was actually used. i feel like if the mudbucker was sent to a clean amp and the J sent to his overdrive, he'd have had a cleaner signal. after hearing the isolated tracks, i can see why he got buried so easily.
Oh, come on, now. Jason is a stand up guy and a decent player. Would you have wanted to fill those shoes? He did, albeit in a different manner.
I get bummed thinking about what Cliff, and for that matter, Metallica, would have become, had he lived. Kinda like how I feel about Randy Rhodes - two inspired musicians who had a profound impact on their given instruments, taken from us all too soon.
And yeah, it's a mudbucker and a jazz pickup...

I loved metallica with cliff and thought cliff was god, but i never really understood why everyone hates on jason. You could have put in any other bassist in the world into metallica to play after what happened to cliff and you would hate him too. Senseless hate bro, really doubt cliff would want yall to hate on anyone with no reason on his behalf. sych a stupid arguement.

Cliff's sister has the Rickenbacker.
A friend of mine and I got to shoot the bull with Newsted when they were touring after a show and he said that he was given the Aria that Cliff played the night he was killed; even still with the same strings. We got to talking about bass stuff and I completely forgot to ask about Cliff's 4001.
Jason doesn't have the Aria that Cliff used that night, Lars has it.
Regardless of whether he deserves it, it only makes sense that Metallica's next bassist will play the bass the first left behind.

HEy, despite all this crap about fightign over who is who and who is the best (they are all men, different men, no bass player is God.), no one has mentioned that someone said CLiff's sister now has the 4001 anyway. You started arguing about the Aria! I wanted to hear some more about the sister angle, as I had always heard it was stolen. Guess I was mislead into thinking this had something to do with Cliff Burtons Rick. Silly me.
Yeah, she has the Ric, they gave it to her after the crash, it was retired by him anyway, I believe.
The stolen bass was an Alembic Spoiler.
