you know what,i just remembered an interview cliff did.It was sometime in 86',close to when he died.and i remember the interviewer asked what happened to the ric.idk if he said it was "broken" exactly,but he said that in was being fixed up,and that he would have it back eventually,or something along those lines.i'm guessing he died before he was ever able to use it again though..poor guy :(
 
I think the Kill 'em All stuff was recorded with the Ric still stock. I could be wrong though. I thought for sure the solo he played on Cliff 'Em All (Cliff's 2nd Gig) the Ric was still stock. It definitly had that "Ric" tone, even under the distortion and wah.

it's possible, but i'm not sure either...it definately has the rick tone, but maybe slightly different...maybe he modded it a little first :confused:
 
Joel McIver's book about Cliff "To Live is To Die", is being released this summer. It is currently available for pre-order at Amazon.

I know Joel interviewed Cliff's original bass tech, Chuck Martin, for that book. Hopefully all of the mods to the 4001 will be discussed in detail.
