Clothing Optional?

It's a bit intimidating, but it's fun. (Just watch out for turtles if you go swimming in the lake!)

I played a gig affectionately referred to as "NudeStock" by my old band mates. It sounds real similar. The band all wore clothes for the gig.

(Don't get too excited about the naked people. Most of them look like me. Even the women. If cellulite and saggy swinging things freak you out, you probably shouldn't do it.)

Clothing would have to be more-or-less optional for the band--they're there to do a job, not to enjoy the camp. I am quite capable of hurting myself on stage fully clothed, so doing it sans-threads is right out. And as for loading and setup, well, between the potential for pinching and splinters, I'd be wearing more than work gloves.

But if you do drop, watch out for Ground!

Audience-wize, you're talking a bunch of folks ready to have a good time. Who needs more than that to want to rock and roll?

This has the making for some interesting contributions to the "Chicks At Shows" thread.

From my experience playing at a nudist colony, not so much. However, it was easily over a decade ago when I played that gig. From what I gather nowadays, membership is different, younger members that are all the surgically enhanced and generally more physically fit. There's probably more eye candy now then back when we played at one in the late 90's.

But the vibe was good, people really enjoyed the band and were very social and appreciative. Our percussionist and drummer ended up playing nude the last set. A few of us just wore grass skirts. :D

Good times! :bassist:

Rappa where did you play? We played at some place outside Tampa at a Raindance festival. There was like one girl, Eden or something that was hot. The rest not so much..... then there was this one guy that was like psyhopath asking girls if he could fist them and ****.

Hey if your nervous you don't have to imagine the audience nude right!

Nah... like it's said before, the most beautiful people aren't there, and they NEVER allow photography of any sort there.

We played a nudist resort about a year and a half ago. It was lots of fun... VERY mellow, not at all crazy or anything like that. We played naked, and would do it again in a heartbeat.

I also gained a respect for the grandma who obviously had a mastectomy, but had the attitude "Screw it, I wanna be naked!" God bless her!

BTW. we weren't the youngest people there. There were kids there, too. Yes, kids. And, yes, it was fine. They just played in the pool, and a couple of the little tykes danced with their mothers at times. There were also a few teenagers and college aged kids, too. However, the VAST majority were probably in their 60s. I guess that's how old you have to be before you stop caring what everyone else thinks and you can just say "Screw it, I wanna run around naked in the sun!"

God bless 'em, every one of 'em.

Yeah I agree with some other posts...wear sunscreen IF you are going to take it off. 90% of the folks there should have their clothing on. The people that attend these places are really cool and laid back {modern hippys is what I call them} and yes, there are a FEW that are freaking hot as hell! That being said, most places take "offense" if a guy get's a woody and will ask them to cover up. They understand it's a natural response to seeing someone attractive. And trust me...WAY back in the day I went to a resort and seeing a HOT 20 yr old bend over in front of you....well.... :)

I did a quick search, but I didn't find any story. I found a couple of posts that said something like "I played as a duo at a nudist colony."

Please... explain and expand!

Yep. That's the one. Halloween gig at a nudist colony working a duo act. The guy I was with still does it every year, as a solo. It was everything you wouldn't want it to be. No need for details. That's a told in person story.

It was interesting that even with all the masks, makeup and capes...everyone still recognized each other. The memory of the buffet line still haunts me.

We didn't have to be naked, just put up with all the jokes about us getting naked all night. I head myself say at one point, "We'll take our cloths off if the rest of you put yours on"....it was a loooooooong night.

Well, remember THEY are nudists signing your band to play, knowing you are not nudists----so don't feel YOU have to be nude unless your contract requires it. In that case I'd probably bring a Chapman Stick to play.:smug:
