And it's not getting any cheaper, either. Could very well go up in January. Not sure if Jimmy is raising his prices after NAMM but he may.

Plus, the DN is getting more and more scarce from what Jimmy says.

For an LG5 Classic Supreme, you'll be over $6K.

So, you better strike while the iron is hot! ;) :D

Probably not gonna happen! The 3k I'd lose is not worth nitro and DN IMO....:bawl:

IMO I would strongly go with dots and binding and NOT blocks and binding

WHY ?

Well one is spending beaucoup pesos on a DN board and then to have the fret area reduced considerably by pearl blocks seems to be a compromise favouring the visual over the tonal.

I personally would only do blocks on Honduran, or Indian rose boards.

my humble opinion anyways :hmm:

Personally I'd pass on the blocks, I can't imagine chewing up that DN board.

I second that PETE..wouldn't waste a molecule of that DN board if Ididn't have to--especially not for cosmetic purposes-- at that upcharge price ??

My choice by far:

DOTS AND BINDING for visual beauty and visual functionality. Man I can't tell you how many times I've been on stage and look down at the fingerboard on my vintage Jazz basses and NADDA..who turned the lights out ??

Those side dots just disappear without binding I find :D

Plus binding feels better.

BLOCKS make the AC's look stubby where as the full width blocks on the Fender Custom Shop 5 basses are wider and look very slender and proportioned--to my eyes anyways ??

I DO LIKE the Black Blocks on the RA 5 on maple board though..killin' :hyper:

There are plenty more basses on the site I got those pictures from but I didn't grab any that are similar to the guys that post like Ken's seafoam LG and Fred's Dakota Red LG.

I can look at these pics for hours.

Two things that stick out that I don't like:

KBP5s with the modern bridge...

Most of the maple fingerboard basses do not have a tint and seem to new and white.

Otherwise beautiful stuff. Shell Pink, Plum Crazy & Burgendy Mist OFF THE HOOK

I have a question that I don't see discussed much here. Has anyone had a 5er with tighter spacing? I know a few of you have Jimmy's ear, is he opposed to that? Has it been done?
I have seen a P4 w/a jazz neck but don't recall seeing a 5 that looks less than 19mm.

when i was still deciding who to get my narrow jazz 5 made by, i asked him if hed do it and it didnt seem like itd be a problem. he mentioned tom barney wanting a narrow 5 as well but i dont know if that ever got made.

I think I know the photograph you're speaking of (Jimmy on a stool in the workshop?) - if so, I'm pretty sure the bass at lowend isn't the same one. I have the bass that is photographed with Jimmy and it came from the original commissioning purchaser

A Tom Barney prototype 5 string is in production now with 18mm spacing. I gotta make sure but I think it might be done in time for BP Live.

A couple pages back I mentioned playing a newly built black LG5 that's on her way to Japan... Here's a pic of her with her travel mate, an LM5-Rosewood in Trans White.

Needless to say I had a pretty good time before I left the shop last night. :bassist:

Beautiful duo of ebony and ivory.
Interesting that neither has pickguards OR is that he last thing to be added in final assembly OR were they ordered that way ?

I like a pickguard ;)

BTW I have a beautiful near mint 1990 Ken Smith BT6 that I would trade for an LG5, RA5 or an LM5 and I could add cash for the right piece ?
