Is this a CNC machine thing? I know for a fact that wasn't always the case, but it's definitely cool that it is now! :)

And to Vic's question...
1. The inlays and binding are put in.
2. Then the binding is scraped and leveled.
3. Neck sanded.
4. Fingerboard trued.
5. Then the frets (the part that digs into the fretboard - I forget the name) are cut a bit shorter to fit within the binding.
6. Then the whole thing is sprayed and Jimmy scrapes the finish off the frets for the final fret job.

Yeah, I think this is how it pretty much always has to be done. You can't have the fret tangs into the binding or it'll just split and come off over time.

Take a look at any Fender, for example, and you can see the board poly covering the "seam" between the side of the fret and the board, guaranteeing the fret was in there first, and you can also see the finish was basically removed from the frets in the final fret level/dress phase.

Well, I was gonna' post that I love my LG, but I figure most folks here have heard me say I love my LG enough that one more iteration of I love my LG would just be too many times to say I love my LG... even in the AC thread where a phrase like I love my LG is usually very welcome. So, I guess despite the fact that I love my LG, I'll avoid saying I love my LG here, because I certainly wouldn't want folks to get sick of me saying I love my LG... especially noting that I think everyone here already knows how much I love my LG.

So I guess I'll just keep my feelings on the matter to myself. ;) :D

Hey Kirk & Yohann,

A little off-topic, but if you get a chance at BPL (like you'll have loads of free time, right?) do you think you might take the time to plug an LG or KPB into the new Ampeg B15 re-issue (assuming it actually exists)? My 64 B15 and LG4 work really well together, but I'm afraid to take an antique to a gig. BUT, if the new re-issue is in the ball park sound-wise, I'd certainly haul that on jobs.

I would love to do that for you George and I'm sure I will have more than enough time. But I honestly think Kirk is better suited to give you an accurate and informed review based on experience with vintage B15's... Which I don't have much of - only once when a studio had it and an engineer insisted I use it.

George, is this re-issue any different than the one that came out a few years ago? Because I've used the KBP5 with my '64 sb-12 AND one of the re-issue B-15s, not to mention several vintage B-15s and the tone is nothing short of Jamerson fat! If I had the $ I would absolutely tote one of those around instead of my vintage flip-top....plus they're 100 watts!

Yup, if you check out the Amps section, there's been talk of a new and more authentic B15 re-issue that is to be unleashed at BPL this weekend. I used to love the sound of your/my KPB5 through a 1970 B15, but I managed to get my hands on a 1964 double-baffle, and to my ears that was even better. I use mine for rehearsing and recording with my jazz trio, and it is the shiznit for sure. I would suspect that this new one - if done right - would sound spectacular with your KPB5.

Other than a few pictures on Ampeg USA's facebook group, there are very few details available, so nobody seems to know the amp specs or list price. By tomorrow there should be a lot more info available.

Hey Yohann, maybe you and Kirk could sorta kinda "disappear" one over to Jimmy's booth for an afternoon? :ninja:

I gotta agree with you there :D....but having played a bunch of old ones both 60's and early 70's, AND the more recent re-issue with more power, (and even a few old Oliver amps) I found I really dug the re-issue the most. It sounded exactly like an old 60s but louder and a fuller low end. Plus it has a built in DI out and speakon connector! Totally gig worthy. I've owned my '64 Sb-12 for a few years now and I would still trade it for one of those re-issues in a second.
They may sound great in the studio, but like you said I'd rather be gigging with a re-issue that has no vintage value. Especially if it can actually be heard at those gigs! I just feel like making a clone copy of an old B-15 is kind of a waste when they could be uprgrading it to make it more useful in todays music world. Very curious to see what the deal is!

Yes certainly. I'm with Jimmy right now at his house . That b15 is on our agenda first thing tomorrow. I think Daryl jones is doing the unveiling. Dino had the box there today at setup but I could not get a peek.

Oh , Jimmy and Sebnem took me on a date to In-n- Out burger today. It is worth the wait in line
