Ask Carey..
Im repeating what i heard from another builder.. NOT JIMMY.
It really doesn't matter, as I SAID.. Its the end product that matters.

No war.. but there are people that like to come and stir the pot as in Nruad.. He will come to the thread after each NAMM show (as he did last year too ) and try to stir controversy Against Jimmy.. He is just negative in almost all response to Jimmy... go back and read...
So im replying with inside info that i get from the mucho folks that i know in the bizz, . You know , the other side of the story.. so it isn't so slanted.

I'm with Joe. Which parts?

Its not carey and jimmy war .., its Nraud against others war.. just hard to deal with his constant negativity.
After all, Jimmy and Casey are friends

Why does there seem to be a Biggie/Tupac thing going on between Jimmy/Carey, but not by them themselves, but by TB members?

Certainly not trying to stir the pot or cause any trouble. I've owned both Nordstrand and Alleva-Coppolo basses and they're top notch. Can't go wrong with either.

Looking at Carey's shop tour, it seems to me that everything is made in-house. Invalid Link Removed

Appears that way.:) And it really does NOT matter as i originally posted.

Not you Bernie. You're cool.

But as Yohan said some people go out of the way and lurk and grasp at straws to be negative. And pound on it for a reason yet to be determined...
I can see if Jimmy pulled a Dr Bass move.. Then everyone should jump and attack.. This is NOT the case.

but its one guy that has an agenda and is friends with someone else that builds basses, that tries to stir a poop pot when there is nothing to stir.. and instead of it being a nice discussion... it borders on or near slanderous negativity.. :rollno:IMO.,
But not you Bernie...
There I feel better now.. hope i clarified it all better.:)

I talked to Carey to clear up the confusion in regards to him sourcing parts and here's what he had to say.

The very first batch of basses I made I got parts from another company.
They were awful and I was only able to use half of them. That was when
I started making my own parts. So there's maybe 8 basses out there that
were made from sourced parts. The other 250+ were made totally in
house. The only thing we don't so here is spray finishes. But, I have
a very close relationship with my painter (he's local to me) and he does
killer work. He even works at Fender during the day.

So that settles it. Now that we're all on the same page, please move along. Nothing to see here. ;)

From my observations, it just seems like Jimmy can never catch a break with some members of this forum - and it's a consistent few. And they seem to feel the need to constantly vocalize their disapproval of the things Jimmy does. Not just in this club thread but most of the time the name Alleva~Coppolo comes up on TB. I am Jimmy's personal friend and part-time employee and I sure feel strong loyalty towards him but I've never felt any need to speak negatively about another brand. I only worry about my friendship with Jimmy and my love for his basses.

EDIT: I removed my previous post in an effort to be clearer with what I wanted to say without negatively calling anyone out... Hopefully the above reflects my intent.

Be careful with that...

Exactly.

IMHO, it does matter, because it's going to be perceived by many as something you've just objected to...
it borders on or near slanderous negativity.
... basically, you just did what you just (validly) objected to.

Enthusiasm and advocacy can be a great thing... if you're careful with it.

Having a new builder on the scene, who's got a great following based on quality and vibe, perhaps might be less than thrilling to some of the older guard..maybe they express their feelings indirectly, maybe they get a little negative TB vibe going in the shadows, probably none of the above... who can say.
Well, I'm glad I'm not a member of that group. Personally, I LOVE it when somebody new comes on scene with stellar stuff. It's like opening the window on a spring day. And there's LOTS more out there that we don't even know about, and may never. I'm just glad I found Jimmy and the LG. :)

Not even close... But yeah there is allot of that here.. from ALL..
:D

Dear Narud and SVT
Shussh you 2 :D

Shake hands and make up, as you likely are mutually misunderstanding each other over rather minutae details that may or may not be of any significance to the artistry and personalities of the 2 bass luthiers involved IMHO. :crying:

Now on the humorous fun side of things, you both are born in the year of the ROOSTER. One of their chief traits is that they are blunt in their opinions, not due to being mean, but rather, in their desire to be honest and truthful. :D:D:D

As I read (see) it that is all that has went down here.
Now how about some killer sound clips or photos from some of those recent acqusitions from the AC booth NAMM 2011, ya all ?????

:hyper::hyper::hyper:

So you just like going all over Talkbass pissing people off under the guise of "I just like Jazz basses" or probebly something about just giving your opinion. I think the guys above have a good point about you after reading through all the past threads, and even though you get a kick out of doing it, you seem to get what you deserve IMO ( which also may be part of getting your kicks)
:D

the only people that get pissed off are those that have over emotional attachments to builders or their basses. in the nordstrand thread years ago, people were recommending whats now the modern series as a great fender style bass. based on my experience with it, i disagreed and provided my contrary opinion hopefully providing some balance. ken bought one of those basses based on the reviews of them being fender like and was greatly disappointed and sold it quick.

in the f bass thread, i gave my opinion on what tweaks could make that series of basses perfect in terms of sounding like a legit old fender. mainly because every time i played one in a shop the way they were being shipped didnt sound very good.

in this thread, based on my experience, i posted some thoughts on basses that i played that i felt had some issues. also giving some serious praise to basses like andrew's white lg4. hell, i still use a outboard pre part of my rig.

it aint all going to be compliments

Just keep it polite, everyone. People do get emotionally attached to particular basses/builders, so we need to keep both those views in mind as well as contrary views that are equally valid and have as much right to be posted.

it aint all going to be compliments
Thank goodness. It would make TB pretty worthless as an info source.

In general (not directed at you, Joe)...

I find the biggest problem with people getting upset over other people's posts that are negative or contrary, is almost always in the language used to present the position. Often curt responses, even if the person didn't intend it to be that way, are treated as rude.

In as much as we should all be big boys and not need the smileys or sugar coating to make it very clear the tone of a post is non-confrontational, even though it is contrary, it's just a necessary evil on web forums (and emails for that matter.)

Or, you can just say screw it, I'm gonna' word it any way I like, and then you get to put up with the crap storm that always follows. Seems like that's the hard way to go to me, but to each their own, I guess... still lotsa' people doing it... some may even enjoy it.

Bottom line is, 95% of the crap storms are avoidable if you just take a little time to make the tone of a contrary/negative post non-confrontational. If you're upset about something, don't post yet. Wait, and post when you're cool.

C'mon, we all know this, right? :)
