Well, that's exactly what I'd expect between them, so it's good to have that confirmed. I should probably consider a switch, and depending on the price, might try one, but I have a feeling my personal prefs would take me back to the hipshot anyway. I'll think about it.

I think Hipshot makes a version of the bridge Jimmy uses with a more vintage look (looks like a bent plate). That might be a good option for those wanting a modern bridge (i.e., quick release strings, etc.) with a vintage look. I assume it is a direct replacement.

Tonal changes.... as posted above... subtle and kind of a crapshoot, given the interaction of all the components of the instrument.

Checking with BASSGEAR I find that they have 2 HIPSHOT bridges:

a. 18 mm spacing has 4 screws
b. 19 mm spacing has 5 screws

So I am at a loss here, aren't the AC basses most of them save the Tom Barney 19 mm spacing ?

Does Jimmy have special made bridges at 19 mm for 4 holes exclusively for his basses OR am I missing a piece of the puzzle ? :hmm:

Jimmy is very busy again with NAMM so I don't want to bother him un-necessarily on this, BUT I want to invest in a HIP SHOT bridge as an option for my LG's.....

info appreciated
thanks :)

Never noticed that before. My 19mm 5 string (standard for Jimmy) has a 4 hole Hipshot. Hipshot lists three string spacing options for that bridge, and they all have 5 holes as far as I can tell from the site.

Not sure what the deal is there. Interesting.

This is definitely the case. I have seen BOTH 4 and 5 hole 19mm bridges from Hipshot. I don't know if it's new/old or just different patterns based on OEM spec/request, but it's definitely something to be aware of if you're thinking about swapping bridges around.
