Yes, there were some dings and wear prior to shipping that were fully disclosed, and more dents down to the wood that were added b/c the UPS store just threw it in a thin box with packing peanuts.

It was insured but the claims process sounded like a long, drawn out affair which the seller did not have the time/interest to attempt. He gave me the option to return the bass for a full refund or keep it and give me a partial refund. We agreed on the later option.

Whatever, I am fine with it for now. It plays and sounds great which is the main thing.

FWIW, I think you did the right thing. I wouldn't worry about a couple dings, and IMHO it's a good thing the seller basically side-stepped the insurance thing, which could have been long and/or complicated, and maybe even require you be without the bass while it was being settled.

When I bought my LM a number of years ago from Jimmy when he was in New York, he shipped it in a thin cardboard box in that orginal, thin gig bag, with NO packing peanuts.

It showed up in perfect shape, but a thought 'man, he's going to have to go to packing school, or there is going to be some serious crying down the road'.:D

I'll never forget opening that box and wondering how many pieces the bass would be in! I (and Jimmy) were lucky on that one.

I just finished yet another clip reviewing some new gear that I will put up in a day or two using the LM5, and it continues to sound simply amazing. STILL haven't adjusted the neck.... 4 years+ and counting:bassist:

My LG has been out again lately too and it just continues to deliver. And yeah, I think pretty much the only times I've adjusted the neck were to experiment with different relief settings.

A neck sent to the painter lately arrived cracked, so jimmy has gone kinda crazy packing as of recent...

I had a bass destroyed by UPS once and it was pretty easy to get the insurance money, so don't let that hold you back in the future. The sender does have to do part of the claim work though, as you said.

We have a loong way to go on it everyone...Jimmy has a lot of plans for it, so it going to get several additions over the next few months.. Sorry for lagging... He just has very specific descriptions he wants And he has just been swamped getting ready for namm.. And after the second annual A-C valentines bassacre bass hang in feb! Hopefully after we will get moving on it!

I purchased two A-C's from Brian at the Low End. GREAT guy to do business with. He has a relationship with a 'collector' type guy, and regularly has used A-C's that have virtually never been played. I purchased my surf green LG from him, and my CAR RA, and they were both literally 'as new out of the box'.

IMO, the prices he has listed on those A-C's are quite reasonable, given the 'mint' description. The OP who is interested in them should ask Brian if they come from his 'collector' source. If so, the basses will be literally new and most likely never even played. My surf green LG still had the plastic on the back plate and guard, and the strings were literally new.

So, in that case, you are getting a literally new A-C with no wait and $500 off or so. Not bad!

Again, I don't know the situation with these particular basses, but the two I purchased from Brian, listed as 'mint' were not only 'mint', but literally new and probably had less than 15 minutes playing time on them.
