Didi you A/B the resurrection model with a bypassed pre LG and what did you find was the difference?
Are the pickups there same or are they under wound for passive models?

I tried the original Resurrection 4 (Lime Green was it) and loved it. I had a LG Classic Supreme back then and somehow don't know why loved the sound of a passive bass more.

I still liked the LG but in the end traded it for a 64 Jazz and have never looked back. Even my Nordy VJ5 to me sounds really great passive although the pre amp is so subtle..similar to Jimmy's actually IMHO.

So that's pretty much why I went that way. In fact talking about passive tones my first love is my 77 Jazz which to me has tone to die for but unfortunately has a weight problem...

So in conclusion its probably my own idiosyncracies that has driven me to this build....not that I deserve a bass this good but I'll keep practicing. :)

Hi Rick.. You did a GREAT JOB of shooting my bass...!! Spoke with Jimmy last night while on break at a local gig.. I may get out to see you.. Have a session in Vancouver that may make me late though.
Hanging with fellow Brooklyn goombahs Uncle Pauly and ( "Joey the snow removal guy" ) wink wink... lol

But i just love this photo that you took! Great Job!!!!

I was telling Jimmy that people come up to me and want me to take their photo with my bass... or they just take pics of it.. Im sure they are floating around FB somewhere.:smug:

i can see that... trying to describe every model on the site has been difficult to distinguish, but.. i can see his side too... in the end, hes just trying to continue bringing new variances/options on the basic line (lg lm ra kbp)... it seems to be a TomAto/tomato thing... to say its a lg with x addons or to say its a lg classic supreme is really the same thing....hes just giving it a name to recognise the level of the model... anyways.. im hoping to make it clear on the site as im doing it so it becomes easy to understand his system... all the models on the site in the past didnt really separate it that much... if you look now..you will see all the models in order (even though not all descriptions are yet finished).

Jimmy's pre-amp is great but I find I play my AC in passive mode most of the time.

wow not me! I usually keep both the bass and treb knobs at about 50%....sometimes the bass a little more depending on the room....the passive sound is great in the studio but live it's def too sterile for me (IMO of course)

FWIW I'm also using coated rounds and run the amp always with the EQ bypassed so that might be why I'm using more onboard EQ....

haha NO I've moved on Rick! With the new LM5 I really love the tone of both vol knobs wide open but I'm still convinced the RA5 just sounds better at 50%....:D

I kept my setting just like yours Mitch!

Here is some support for the different model designations as I understand them:
The Resurrection is meant to be like a '66 --- if you remember the original green one it had a bound fingerboard and dot markers and the rosewood capped rather than slab fingerboard.
The Hippy Dippy Trippy is meant to be like a '63 or '64 with the finish stripped from the body. A misnomer in my opinion, this practice was very popular in the early 1970's, say 1970 -- 1972 and I think the model should be called the Post-Hippy.

Figured I'd check in. I don't post up much anymore.

I think I can finally say I found the one, after a year and a half with my LM5 I own no other electric basses and really have lost interest in looking around anymore.

At 10.75 lbs I do sometimes wonder if I couldn't be happier with a lighter one but the weight hasn't been a big issue thus far.

All the best

Pete

Howdy Pete:
like you, I don't post much in this thread anymore. Also like you, I still like my LG5 just fine. I could do about any gig with that bass.

You have officially won the game then. Congrats! :)

We need more pics of that one please!
A ploy to make me post more? ;)
