Per our conversation at the show, Spector has done this for years on some of their 4 string models, and to my ear, they sound great. I'd think you'd really dig it a LOT. I've also considered having something built where the neck pickup is a reverse P, but in the normal P location, and having a bridge pickup be a reverse P as well... basically what you're saying, but maybe slightly differently spaced.

Those series wound split "Z" pickups are underrated as pickups to be considered for configs other than the usual P or PJ IMHO. Great beefy tone, and single sensing (narrow aperture). All good.

I tried the 2 P Pups.. With one Rev P in bridge position and Normal in the P position on an ESP bass I got back in the early 80s.. Never tried it the other way around though,,, Back then they were going as "48th Street Custom" I was freinds with the builder there and they did anything that anyone wanted...
I still have the body. It was not what i was looking for.

I did a session a few years ago in Sedona , AZ for a friend that had Sklar in the studio the day before me... So he soloed his tracks for me... and it is that Man that makes that bass sound the way it does. Sklar is a MASTER! Phrasing, touch, feel, note selection and where he puts it in time that makes him the Yoda of bass that he is.
I still want a PP 4 though... Thinking Rev Rev PP with a Universal route just in case i want to make a change..

Uni PP is a good idea... rev P has its benefits, but if you did want the ability to get as close to a "real" P sometime, you'd have to have that (tho the pickguard would still have to be a bit unique to cover the rev P route of course).

On the "not what i was looking for", that might also be an issue just with P pickup type (brand/model) and placement, too.

Anyway, I liked the Spectors I heard quite a bit, FWIW. Lots of great growl along with the earthy mids from those P's. Nice.

Oh, and yeah, Sklar=Master... no doubt! :)

Might I suggest trans blue with a pearloid pickguard?

My new custom (not an AC) will have a hard ash body and a candy apple red finish, but in general I think natural and trans finishes look best on ash.

I chose the birch beer with black PG. I usually stick with common colors, so I decided to go outside my box a lil bit.

Hey Joel, this bass went to a really nice young guy from Austrailia, it sounded sweet and played well. the finish was a nice subtle take on a type of rootbeer.

BTW - Just hung up with Jimmy. Talking through a couple of things for my upcoming LM5. He's such a good guy. As a customer, I love that he loves what he does. His passion for this stuff really comes through.
