Totally gutted and remodeled. Reopened recently, you wouldn't recognize it. This will be my first show in the new venue, it is the building the iMac was.

Just had a phone conversation with Jimmy alittle while ago about Bassacre and also the Resurrection 5's.. What a great down to earth guy.. I remember visiting the shop 2 years ago and he and his wife very gracious to me... Very cool when someone takes the time to answer your questions and provide insight about their instruments...

Cool.. Patchouge has a new event center too from what i heard..
Is North Stage theater still open in Glen Cove? Haven't been there in over 15 years...

I don't know anything about the Glen Cove Theatre. Patchogue is an old converted movie theatre, I saw bella Fleck a few years ago, sound was pretty good.

Hey, hasn't anyone heard the bass tests of a few of Jimmy's models on the AC Home Page under SOUNDCLOUD added about 2 days ago. ????

An excellent cross reference of the tonal characteristics of most models with slap and finger tone demonstrations for each ( I could be totally wrong on this, but MY EARS tells me it is a certain bassist from TORONTO by the playing style :hmm: )

In any case, my faves are the new KP5 with the J pickup added--that is a run away smoking versatile bass-with very unique voicing options, PLUS, it is FAT. Second would be the LG5, then the LM5, 51 P, and lastly the RA5

I don't know ? But to my ears the RA 5 sounds very sluggish and you can actually hear the bassist slowing down and adjusting ( on the LG --he flys !! ) and too, the low B string was thuddy and the top was brittle. I didn't find the top and bottom were connected somehow :hmm:

Congrats nonetheless for putting these sound bits up.

I enjoyed the RA sound bite better than the LM. LM seem a lil thin and too bright. Now wondering if I should have ordered a RA instead of LM. It's all good. :-)

Nice clips, and they pretty much correspond to why I hear when I owned an RA, LG and LM at the same time, strung with the same strings. The LM is just classic 70's J (big extended low end, and bright upper mid grind) and the LG is just classic 60's J (tighter low end, smoother mids, less top end extension. The RA continues to be a 'strange bird' for me (although a 'good' strange bird). Very warm, round low end, less upper mid brightness than the LM, but more upper treble than the LG (as you say, with the top end a little disconnected from the 'meat' of the tone).

Here are some old clips I did (haven't posted these for a couple years) of the LG, LM and RA in the same room, same amp, same strings. You should hear similar differences as the clips linked on the A-C site, but they are a little more separated and 'distinct' in my clips IMO (possibly due to the DR Hi Beams being a very full range and 'revealing' string which really extends through the entire range of these instruments).

Relax dude, I played an LM5 last night - it was anything but thin. The thing to remember about the 3 models (LG/RA/LM) is that they represent a continuum of tone. They can be made to cross paths tonally on either end of the spectrum - meaning you can get an LG and an RA to sound similar, or an RA and an LM to sound similar. Doesn't mean you can't funk out on an LG, doesn't mean you can't get an old school sound on an LM.

In the end, we too often forget that the tone is in the fingers as much as anywhere, and for most of us finding that bass with the neck/body wood combo that gives us tonal and physical comfort is (or should be the goal). For me, that combo continues to be the RA, though ironically I have only the LG4 at the moment, and will take possession of an LM shortly.

Yes that is the Great Mitch Starkman! Right after namm Mitch came by the shop and we did some videos of him playing each model for the site and I decided to record the audio "closer" to studio quality than thru the camera- and so the idea to have the audio available for comparison... Stay tuned to the site, just have to edit thru 12 gb of video;)

What I meant to say in the first place... nice clips Mitch! A solid primer for those unfamiliar with the AC models. I'm looking forward to to video product. Any idea when some of that might be ready Rick? Also, the LG5 clip... was that the Sunburst Tom Barney?

GREAT tracks GREAT playing and GREAT reference.

BOTH basses sound stupid ( sick ).

Again, only my personal opinion I still favour the LM with a very close second by the LG. It has been my expeience BOTH live and recorded that the notes on the LM are more distinct than the notes on the LG fingerstyle and about even when it comes to slap........

I'm not feeling ( hearing ) the RA 5 yet in any of the samples out there.

And then DIGLO likes the RA over the LM :hyper:

That's cool-- to have choices says a lot about the inherent qualities of the superb AC line. ;)

You might be observing more about Jimmy's build/PU's there (if indeed that is what you are hearing) than you are about the Fender maple/alder build, as Geddy plays one and ain't nobody called him sluggish sounding :rollno: (my Fender GL absolutely SMOKES!).
