You might be observing more about Jimmy's build/PU's there than you are about the Fender maple/alder build, as Geddy plays one and ain't nobody called him sluggish sounding(my Fender GL absolutely SMOKES!).
I thought this AC forum topic was about the comparative sounds of those basses.
I honestly don't see how a Geddy Lee Jazz jumps into that arena ? I assume we are talking a non 72 Jazz bass, the Made in Japan model that sell locally for about $1000--- and everyone I saw was passive and a 4 string and only 20 frets. I could hardly put a Fender Geddy Lee beside a MasterBuilt Made in the USA, active/passive, custom home made pickups, 21 frets, and a 5 string bass guitar.
My comment about sluggish was purely based on the enclosed A-B tests. Yup I agree nothing sluggish about homeboy (Toronto) on any of the basses he has used throughout his long career. I am curious how the Geddy Lee would have sounded actually in that AC- AB test.
