Whats crazy is some of the talk here on TB ... People get so wound up in a tight wad about some of the finest minutiae of specs and charts over and over again ,for weeks and months the same thing, that they forget to practice their basses to become a better player or even gig at all.

Lol! Yup.

If I ever get to anywhere near 5000 posts within 5 years, someone pm to remind me why I started to play bass, because I would have clearly become lost and confused and need some help!

Hey fellow AC bro's et al !! :):)

I was wondering if any you all have contemplated OR even went the distance and had your AC pre-amp wired as a master Vol, Blend combo as opposed to the 2 Pickup VOL's that are currently employed by Jimmy ( a la JAZZ Bass ).

The reason I ask is that I have the Dickens of a time trying to get the right nuance/volume/dynamic on my gorgeous AC basses LIVE as I change from one style/song to another. Of course we all know that we lose the tone/pickup setting when we start adjusting the pickup volumes.

I DO NOT have this challenge on Master Vol basses (Sadowsky, Smith, MTD, Fodera, Fender Custom Classic, Spector etc etc ).

ALSO this problem is only exacerbated by a LIVE setting.

RECORDING setting at static volumes, the AC basses absolutely rule, for my purposes at least.

So what do you all think of a MASTER VOL/BLEND thing on the current killin AC preamp ???? :hmm::hmm:

Just a comment in order to understand your issue.

Since these passive vol/vol and blend circuits have 95% of their impact within about 5% of their travel, most of the impact of the blend is just ever so slightly off center either way, and vol/vol is the same way... with one dimed and the other slightly turned off. So, I don't really have an issue getting to where I need to go with either one in a live setting.

Of course, if you dial down both of the vol/vol's differentially, you get a bit more pickup loading, etc., similar to blending and then turning down the master volume (although this would really only make a noticable impact in passive/non buffered mode).

So, that was a long winded way of sahing 'no', I have no issues with the vol/vol, at least the way I use that circuit.

bassarama:
I feel what you're saying, and I too prefer a blend circuit, but, I deal.
I most generally don't change on the fly inside a song. If I did, that might bother me more.

I think I've read of people making this change in past Alleva mega-threads, and I'd even go so far as to say if you called Jimmy and asked him nicely to wire up a replacement harness, and ask what it costs, he'd do it for you.

It's a change any decent local tech should be able to make for you as well.

yeah..good point ...but i actually gig in real life..

I prefer a blend pot for ease.. But to me i have the illusion that it sounds better with will VOL VOL for some reason ..
Purist say the VOL VOL is the way to go.. I am no purist. But many of them here on TB debating stuff till its dead may disagree...

I understand 100%.. I was just playing the best devils advocate as i could while on layover. haha
But i would call a decal like that a Conversation Piece. Mind you, i dont put decals on my cars or basses.. I have been known to carve my passed Dogs name into the back if a bass though..

But your Lexus does have a bumper sticker on it. That little Decal or Emblem on the trunk that has the DEALERS Name on it.. Not a manufactures "LEXUS" Logo ornament ,but the local dealers Name..

Funny you should say this, whenever I buy a car the first thing I do before I leave the dealer lot is I grab my screw driver and remove any advertising plate they put around my vehicle plates. I tell the dealer if you want me to advertise for you pick up 20 dollars of my monthly payments I will gladly leave it there. Advertising is not free. Did the same thing when I bought both my Harleys. Bought a car once where it was a sticker on the trunk, drove home and WD40 was my friend that day.

+1.. I am with ya...
Years ago I had a deal on columbia recs and my A&R man would tell us .. to NOT wear anything with a logo on it.. Unless they paid you for it orgave you lots of stuff for free.. What is your promo worth...... He was right...

Some of those car dealers rivet those tags on there... Its just rude of them to assume IMO....

Not sure what i will be promoting with the big middle finger #1 salute on the back of my next Alleva.. but i will have to keep it forever..And its one of a kind :D:D

FWIW, I would definitely not want a builder to put his personal political statements/agenda anywhere on my instrument... especially indelibly.

And to make sure we're on the same page here, this is a general statement. I am NOT saying I either agree or disagree with his thoughts on this specific matter. I just disagree with the practice in general, and I would not purchase/accept an instrument with such an emblem on it.

IMHO!!!

This is a touchy subject for sure. 9/11/01 has become one of those landmark cultural moments in North America. I still remember that day vividly, and though I followed the events of the day and lived through the aftermath from afar, there is no way for me to internalize the experience in the way that a dyed-in-the-wool New Yorker would. From that perspective I'm okay with a tribute/remembrance logo on a bass.

Would I order it for my own bass from Jimmy? Doubtful.

Would I want a conspiracy logo? Doubtful.

Having said that, I seriously doubt Jimmy is badging all of his basses with the 23/7 thing (or is it 7/23), but like the wild P-Bass from NAMM last year, though it's not my thing, I can understand why he would do it as a personal/artistic statement.

Maybe this is a new niche market - personal social agenda basses? For a small upcharge you can have an inscribed message in favour of legalizing grass on your hippy-dippy bass.

And so on... Open contest time! 25 points awarded to the best model/color/personal agenda insignia on an Alleva Coppolo bass.

People like to bring this up again, so let me respond in a limited way.
I don’t wish to offend anyone, and I am not easily offended myself.. I’m a big boy and take any hit thrown at me. Unless its BS !
Let me play devil’s advocate for a second.. Or at least try to just for the fun of it..
If no one gets it, well then they just don’t get it.. no skin off my knuckles.

People call the alternate story a conspiracy theory.. Simply because that is what the Main Stream Media, the source they wish to put their faith in, has told them to say and believe in that version.. Independent thinkers that are not hypnotized by the 60 hz TV Main Stream Media, tend to think that people that believe in the official story actually have been fed the conspiracy story and ate it up hook line and sinker.
Im not taking sides. Im just wanting to try to show there are other ideas. Anyway…..

Personally, i like to hear both sides of ANY story, and come to my own conclusions all the time,,,
My Motto is “Truth does not fear investigation"..
Take that either way you wish.. But for some to call another person a Conspiracy Theorist is as negative as calling someone a slanderous harmful name..

There is no need to fight about a certain story. Believe in what you wish to believe in, and let others believe what they wish. If one wants to buy a Bass a Car or an Airplane with a logo they like or not ,then buy it.. If not, then don’t buy it!!!
I can tell you one thing about Jimmy.. He is not into making basses because it’s such a lucrative thing for him to do.. He is an artist foremost…and is passionate about what he does…
He is not getting rich from making Alleva basses! He could if he did it another way, and not do everything in his own shop.
He makes everything on his own, short of making the Hipshot tuners and pots.
He has even machined metal bridges for me to demo , in order to make a better bass for us all.. That cost money!
He makes all parts, even pickup cover by himself .. If he wanted to make money he would sub contract all that stuff out and put it together in his shop..
So what I’m trying to say is , he is not making a killing making basses in this business. To him, it is more about the art form and working the wood.. And if he was inspired to do a LOGO on the back of the headstock well that is what artists do. This is not my impression, but what he and I have talked about over the years.. He is an artist… And the paintings change from time to time. Art is meant to be INTERPRETED !
If you want one, you buy it ,, if not then dont buy it... its really that simple.. And I KNOW 100% that is what he would say here too…
Personally, I don’t care if he painted it with rat’s blood. If it played great, I will play it. But if I were the type of person against harming rats in the making of a bass, then I would vote with my wallet and not buy it..
Get it?

Hey good idea.. But i think he should have called the Hippy Dippy Trippy .... the 420 bass.. hahahah

Just spoke with jimmy... I am working it out to get the Ave Maria KBP5 bass... It has an Indian RW fingerboard which will be one less thing to think about while going through customs.
Most likely selling my Black Dalbergia RW KBP5 for it...

That's great news Kirk... That is one awesome bass, I now can actually picture myself playing it live... Anyone who thought it looked "funny" can say it to my face and we can deal with it. My wife loves it also, she had me take a few pics of her with it... And now that it's got flats on, it's even more awesome! Is your black one coming back to Jimmy? Or are you selling it on your own? I hope it comes back to the shop as I would love to check it out!

+1 The 'crazy talk' kind of stuff should definitely stay out of one's business dealings. That is 'business 101'.

Oh please, this is a small privately owned company. If you don't like it, don't do anymore business with him, but labeling what he did as 'crazy talk' is quite disrespectful to what HE believes. You may not want the image emblazoned on your bass which is fine, but don't label the cat for doing his thing.
