Funny thing is , we are musicians and think of ourselves as open to many things but its funny how closed people are to different ideas others may have. anyway.. back to the basses....

I'm open to discussing things like politics, religion or conspiracy theories and I have no issue with people having very different viewpoints than me. It often makes for interesting conversation. But there's a big difference between being tolerant of people having different ideas and wanting them stamped on a very expensive bass I just paid for.

That would be true even if I shared the same views but it's especially true when I don't.

That said, Jimmy makes amazing basses and he can do whatever he likes with his products.

I honestly thought Jimmy was joking when he told me he wanted to put building 7 into the graphic on the back since he brought it up after we had a long discussion about 9/11 in general and all the conspiracy info we knew. Jimmy is clearly a major conspiracy "researcher" as Kirk put it, but anyone who does just a little research can easily get wrapped up in all the possibilities and questions and I see nothing wrong with that, but I'm pretty positive he wouldn't just put that on a customer's bass without clearing it with them first....I thought even introducing the towers in the first place was a little iffy. Certainly the last thing I want to be thinking about when I'm rocking out and I'm very glad my basses are both pre 9/11 tribute! Love the "proudly made in the USA by an NYC Italian" though!

I would hate (and be embarrassed) to have to explain that being on my bass to anyone.

Thats cool.. but let me play devils advocate for fun and sillys sake..
We all love the basses for their vintage feel and sound.. would it really make a change to that sound by having something on the rear of the headstock that no one sees except for the owner... afterall he is not just a guy that puts together parts.. he builds the whole thing from blocks of wood in his shop.. sort of an ARTIST and not just a manufacturer. Each one is different in its own way..

I was serious about having him laser the middle finger in the back of the headstock on my new bass... but then i may have to pay Lee Sklar royalties.. he seems to have capitalized that middle finger thing pretty well .

Whats crazy is some of the talk here on TB ... People get so wound up in a tight wad about some of the finest minutiae of specs and charts over and over again ,for weeks and months the same thing, that they forget to practice their basses to become a better player or even gig at all.


I am a big fan of any publicity is good publicity.... keep the public talking about you... Dont think this is what Jimmy is doing .. But if so, it sure is a good idea.

Sorry to say, but that's a Poor selection of words .Very condescending and disrespectful towards a specific person.. IMO.
But back to the basses at hand.

+1 The 'crazy talk' kind of stuff should definitely stay out of one's business dealings. That is 'business 101'.

Im getting a Hippy Dippy Trippy.... the perfect travel bass im thinking... and yes, the Middle Finger #1 salute lasered into the back of the headstock or maybe the front..

BUT,... if i do order a HDT jbass after my visit, the Conspiracy stamp would be cool for me just because! a plus for me is, since being raised in UpState NY, my whole family loves NYC Italians! FTW

No, of course it has no effect on the feel or sound of the instrument and he has every right to put whatever he wants on his basses. But to me the issue is that I don't particularly want a controversial statement on my bass.

Not the best analogy but I see it a bit like buying a new Lexus and the dealership decides to put a bumper sticker on it. Let's say it's a political sticker and one you don't agree with. Without getting specific I'm sure you can think of a sticker you wouldn't want on your car. It is still a wonderful car, but now it is making a statement that you don't agree with and will have to explain to people.

Granted, a bumper sticker is VERY visible and this is incredible subtle, but the point is similar. As someone who does marketing and merchandizing for a living I see little upside in provocative and possibly divisive statements on products unless the intent is solely to sell to the market that such a statement appeals to.

Just my $0.02. Back to gorgeous basses.

I understand 100%.. I was just playing the best devils advocate as i could while on layover. haha
But i would call a decal like that a Conversation Piece. Mind you, i dont put decals on my cars or basses.. I have been known to carve my passed Dogs name into the back if a bass though..

But your Lexus does have a bumper sticker on it. That little Decal or Emblem on the trunk that has the DEALERS Name on it.. Not a manufactures "LEXUS" Logo ornament ,but the local dealers Name..
