I go for the Guard on !
At the risk of my own peril, I might take another sampling...
My LG still has the guard off, and I'm tempted to leave it that way permanently, but I'm still curious what others think, and I do really (also) like the guarded look. Seemed to be pretty much split down the middle last time. Here it is with it off (again) and with it laid on for a visual "what if"...

@Vic...leave the guard on! It brings out the burst. Without, it looks a lil dull. But hey, it's your bass and you can do whatever you want to. Lol
I may be digging the guard out tonight... and maybe the drill out too... 
Still considering screw-less installation tho. That guard is cut super precisely... it fits really tight on the neck. Wouldn't take much to hold the rest down, either. Main question is stuff like, is double stick tape gonna' damage the finish. Mine's the thin coat poly, but still, you never know.

I used Double sided tape but didnt keep the bass long enough to see if it harmed the finish there also is that sticky stuff they use to stick credit cards and other cards to paper when they mail stuff out?Sticky like a booger pardon the expression!

Yeah, that stuff is a lot thicker tho. Plain double stick, like scotch, tape is what I had in mind. I'd also consider getting black electrical tape to put under the holes and then darken the rings in the countersinks with a sharpie... so there's basically black dots where the screw holes are.

Vic -- why do you think you have to do anything permanently? I think it looks great with the guard off, there are some nice features in that alder. I say put the guard on with the proper screws and when you tire of it take it off. I do this every now and then with my Suhr Classic J, right now the guard is off. I don't mind the screw holes (that's what she said).
That's really what it boils down to... I'm one of those weird detail oriented guys that might be bothered by screw holes with no guard. But you're right, it's not a huge deal.
