Gentlemen - meet my new weapon of choice. Picked up this LM5 Saturday afternoon from Jimmy's shop, then raced into LA for 3+ hour rehearsal followed by a 4+ hour gig and this work of art absolutely destroyed. This is the first instrument since a fodera emperor I got in 1992 that I really "connected" with right out of the gate. The sound, the feel, the versatility, the craftsmanship, the look, everything - it is perfect. I am completely blown away.
What Jimmy Coppolo did for me (and does for many others) is remarkable - he made me a bass that enables me to express myself fully, and in any situation - critical for a guy who plays for a living, like 300 gigs a year, plus session stuff. It is inspiring. I cannot put it down.
I get Jimmy's reputation. It is well-deserved. If you are lurking in this thread like I did for a while and considering the AC plunge, I can only quote Ahnold: Do it - Do it now!
Thanks again to you guys for pointing me in the right direction and helping me out. I'm eternally grateful.

+1I wouldn't blame the crowd. It is the market and the economy. All kinds of nice basses that would fly out of here in a day or two sit for months.

It's not at all a simple formula... and it's complicated by how particular people are when spending this kind of money. Every little detail matters a LOT... even just a color... it doesn't even have to be "bad" or objectionable at all to be a deal breaker. When folks spend this much, it really has to be exactly what they want for most people.
It's a great bass, I'm sure. Just be patient and the right customer will come along. Just try hard to avoid the temptation to fire sale it, and hopefully you aren't in a financial situation that would tempt you to do so. It wouldn't be fair to you, and it also would be fair to the brand. Jimmy's work is truly worthy on every level.
Well, as long as you have at least one AC in your stable, we'll let you hang around with us.I feel the same way about my LM5 Deluxe Limited Edition... I lowered it as much as I can but that is it... Fortunately someone recognized a good deal and had the means to act on it so she in on her way to Canada.
Unfortunately for me, some more urgent needs have come up at home so I won't be able to turn the money around into my new LM5 order... I will have to wait. My LG is due this week so that's something to get excited about!
Well, if it's any comfort, I'm ALSO pretty much all about ash bodies, and not just with J basses, but generally speaking, certainly with J basses as well.I agree Vic... It'll be a new thing for me since I've always had Ash bodies for J basses... I will gig the heck out of the LG and see how I connect with it... The other idea, if I could only have 1 A-C, is to go back to the spec that I still love most (I think), which is Ash/Rosewood/60's... Like how it was on my old Mike Lull bass that I sold to dive into A-C world... That bass was everything for me in the 2 years I had it... I wish I could get it back even for sentimental reasons... I was sooooo happy and all for $1300 used. LOL. I think that spec can be the 1 J bass I need to cover all I would do... So maybe do a deposit to get it started and evaluate the LG in the meantime.
Getting close on my LM5.... Looking sweet too!
