nice is that a satin finish? Very cool. There was a couple of amazing LM5's with no pick guard, natural and a trans white, no blocks or binding.. VERY cool.
Hey do you have any info on the pedal that Jimmy is releasing? its mentioned on his website
5 years on - this thing keeps getting better and better. The "A" neck makes this bass slightly unique. It's like playing a jazz bass that sounds like a P bass.

Yes, I chose satin polyester. My ears aren't good enough to know the difference with urethane but Mitch Starkman likes it and that's good enough for me. Lol.

Anyone know proper tension / # screw rotations for the string tree?
After setting up the LG5 with low action (0.010 @ 7th), I backed out the two screws in the retainer and measured 1.5 and 2x full rotations in the screws. I was surprised to find that the strings were now completely flat against the frets after removal. I am tinkering with various levels of tension but just curious what other folks do. Thanks!

Its dependant on your strings and their inherent tension, and your taste for your style, there is no proper tension setting. Although Jimmy has certain preferences for many set up parameters its down to your preference. I do adjust the tree depending on bass and neck angle/string tension. Jimmy and I have had many a discussion about set ups and he understands its individual, but tries to set up basses the way he would for himself and to try and set up to cover as many players taste generally as he can.

Guess I just needed the confidence to tinker with the tree tension, thanks! I had fears of over-tightening and spidering the top coat, but the channel was plenty deep and I got it dialed in.
I did just switch to a set of (ultra low tension) TIJF345's, which was what called attention to it. The slightly tighter tree slightly raised string height at the nut and allowed me to drop action that last bit which evened out height across the board. Most excellent now.
The itch I am scratching was to see how it stacks up against Fender Custom Shop '60s stacked knob jazz and Pino Palladino signature. I preferred the feel of the jazz, but it didn't have the bottom end or even overall volume of the precision. The LG5 with active EQ (+TI flats) is an ideal combination of the two for me, with a bonus 5th string. All I need to do now is sand the back of the neck and it will have that perfect feel.

Hey a little help please. Am I the only one that doesn't like the how the Monique preamp sounds with AC's?
I would really like some feedback on this. I've bought the Monique two times. Once when I had a Classic Supreme with Brazilian and now that I'm playing a Classic with Indonesian.
I can't put 100% of it in words, but I really don't like Monique's added "growl" in the mid range. I think my issue is that to my ear the Alleva's I've had already have their throaty sound and the added character of Monique clashes. I also don't care much for Monique's EQ section. I'm not trying to talk bad about the Monique. It's actually great, tubey, warm, surprisingly fast. Just that in m head I don't find them to pair well. Am I crazy? I can't be crazy. I might be crazy.

I've got a Monique / 800D and it produces a pretty true image of any my basses.
Could it be the amplifier or the speaker cabinet your using? What are you using with it?
The Monique is fairly subtle in terms of EQ in my opinion.
Do you use another preamp? Like a Noble? I've heard they produce good results.
I use a Kern IP777 and then of course I have 1971 SVT. These are definitely more flavoured with mids and sound amazing.
I've used it as a head with Aguilar cabs and as a stand-alone preamp DI when using in ear monitors.
Up until last week I had the Aguilar DB751. Didn't have that issue at all. I have a lot of experience with Noble and that's my favorite preamp DI. I do think the Monique's eq is rather narrow and subtle but not it's natural coloring. Again, I think that's where I clash. In the added color.
Aguilar gear is really mid forward for the most part.
Hmmm, well maybe you found the flavour of the Monique to be a little different with ACs.
Maybe try it with other brands and see what happens?
I recorded my LG5 thru Monique DI one channel and Monique line out into a B-15 mic'ed on a few occasions. It was tonal heaven for me. Of course a lot more variables involved.

I guess unfortunately it's just not for me. I briefly owned a B15. It was so creamy. I loved that sound. Maybe the two signals blended would be just right for me.
Nah man, it's a great unit but just not for me. I'm gonna probably list it up for sale soon.

To my ears, Monqiue is fairly dark sounding tube gear compared with REDDI, Noble or some other Tube amps/gears. I currently own and used to own some of them, depends on the style of music and how dense is the mix, Monique may sound muddy in some situations compared with other Tube or clean preamps especially for an IEM mix you're talking. (Not a Monique/power amp/speaker combo), because power amp section and speaker / tweeter still contribute some sort of EQ/tone to it.
For a DB751, I considered that as clean tube sounding gear already, so you may find it without any problem for most cases like what you expreienced with the Noble preamp, because they both got some sort of tube warmth while there is enough top end in it plus you can add more high if you wanted.
So it is all depends on how your instrument naturally sound, if your instrument is relatively warm sounding with less attack like a traditional Alder/indian or Indonesian Rosewood combo in most cases, you may find the bass sound too mellow or dark with Monique in many mixes, not bad for some music but definiltey not good for all.
For an IEM bass mix, like 90+% of my working situation is IEM gig, you may find surprisingly you actually need more top end on the bass in order to cut through and sound more presense, so Monique may not work on a Coppolo sometimes, or you can try to boost the high on the Monique all the way up and boost the Coppolo's high as well, and you will see what I mean.

You should post a video so we can hear. I'd love to hear your AC with flats.
Recently installed a bridge cover and am loving the results of putting the foam under the cover. The intonation is much better than putting foam under the strings. Had to drill two holes into my bass though
