Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 21)

When I said that the newer body style did not bother me I also meant the shaping, which for me at least go together with the size. I actually like it and feel just as comfortable with the new shape/size as I did with my NY era ACs when I had them. So again whether its size or shape preference its quite individual and people should attempt to try one for themselves over reading about them IMO (sometimes it feels like that fundamental approach to anything about an instrument runs counter to the DNA of an online forum! ;))

As far as Jimmy goes he seems to be doing great. From all the basses I've had and have been around (recently here and in LA) I think that generally the quality of his work now is as good as any time I've experienced- including from 2007 when I started with Coppolos. I've not played all of them of course but I've been around many especially in the last 6 months. He seems to be doing really well all around and I think this is showing up in his work also.

Like Kirk said I dont think the % of sales from TB is very high, and his basses still seem to be in demand... and he has many orders to the point where he has a fairly long wait time.

Things are quiet here but I dont really notice until I get the odd notification......for my part I dont read/post in TB much anymore generally for a number of reasons, but still use the classifieds.

Kirk, that bass is the best P5 I've personally played from Jimmy .....I borrowed it for a week or so a few years back so I'm with you describing it as a monster! I dont think you are the only guy who wants to pry it out his hands lol (not even talking about me:))

I know... I used it on a few records and a tour.. Then i thought .. ehhhh Black bass...... get a shiny new something. Opoooosssss... I know better than that...
That bass was the test bed for all the P5 pickups.. i have a bout a dozen different winds here that i pulled as Jimmy was prototyping them.. The one that is in teh bass was one of the finals... One that he sent was a little darker.. but not by much...
The New KBP5 that i have the Sparkle ( ava maria) is killer too... It has a great Growl for a P bass..... In fact that is what everyone says when they hear it. That thing growls!!!

Hey man. .it was good to do that desert Drive trough with you was that the Mojave? You're from Canada, why am i asking you.. Ha .Maybe again a winter NAMM if i go

Kirk, OOOOOPPPSSSS is right !! haha You should have kept that gem.....but also should "thank you" because partly because of you it IS a gem:)
The pup sounds great.
Direct me to the records you did with it- I'd like to hear them if they are online. When I had it I recorded also and it killed. One of my good friends here ( top player/killer ears) is obsessed with that bass and and I dont think he was even interested in P basses.

Ya the drive was fun (I'll take the narrow mountain curves a little slower next time:)) If you come next year there's another drive on the other side - west of 15.

I know this has been covered before but what strings are you guys using on your LGs? I've been using DR LoRiders but I want something with lower tension. I was thinking about HiBeams or SunBeams.

I really like Fodera steels 40-120 on my current LG CS. The 45- 125 are good too with somewhat lower tension than many brands of the same gauge. The strings have good clarity and feel, and I dont seem to get any dead ones in a pack.

I've had the same set of hibeams on mine for a long long time

Good suggestions. As luck would have it, I think I have both HiBeams and Fodera 120's at home. I'll give them both a whirl.

If you get the NITRO Sonic Blue It is dead on accurate to the real deal from fender way back.
It has aged now and the color is an eye catcher.. . Dinged up from years of gigs and tours though... Jimmy made me an LG5 to match my old L series Jazz bass. He nailed it ...
The CAR is good.. and always sharp looking..Personally, I like the CAR with the Gold underlay and not the silver.
I have an Oly White LG now and it is Poly.. Looks great.. I gte so many compliments.. He computer color match that one to my old '62 oly white P bass so it is new Oly whit that looks old.. But Poly has a different look to it than the Nitro but will last much better than Nitro... except with me.. Ive dinged my Poly Oly White bass... :roflmao:

Hi guys, i am going for a LG5
Which body colour would u suggest?
-oly white
-candy apple orange
-sonic blue
