Club Alleva-Coppolo (Part 21)

Other makers do 3T sunburst well - but Jimmy's burst is the best.

Man, call me blind, but the sunburst on that P-Bass above is pretty bad. Maybe is the lighting or picture quality. See how the upper horn is all black. The black layer around the whole edge is not very consistent in thickness. Then the red layer looks a bit wavy on the bottom of the bass (by the bridge).

The only below looks like a nice sunburst. . .

Trying to capture the true look of a burst with a camera can be difficult.

I'm not sure how consistent fender was in the pre CBS days but you certainly see both ways where the horn is all black and others where the red runs up further.

You can confirm this with a google image search pretty quick. Just based on that search 70s examples more consistently seem to have less black in the upper horn.

My guess is jimmy put some real thought into it and the difference isn't a mistake.

To me it looks like a mid-60s burst. Whatever though - I like it. Nitro rules.

I got jimmy to make a bass for me from light swamp ash.. So i put my LG5 build off,, so there will be an LG5 up for sale soon...
(EDIT People have been emailing me about the bass for sale.. I am sending it back to Jimmy to go towards my new bass,,,, so,,,,,, He will be the person that is selling it once he gets it back Just wanted to clarify , because i have been getting emails the past few days inquiring .. Sorry for any misunderstanding.. it my fault,, sorry) ..
We Picked the body wood for the new bass yesterday.... Looks like it will be an LG5 config in a P5 body..... I had to hammer him to use swamp ash... But he got a load of lightweight stuff.... yeaaah The last time that i hammered him it was to make a P5... hahah I guess i work like water on a stone..
I asked him to send me photos as the build proceeds... ill try to post as it goes

Spoke with Jimmy today.. I told him to pic a color for me... Just as long as it is Nitro and NOT Pink... So lets see what comes.... Thinking of a muscle car thing form the 60s or 70s though.. with flat black stripe????? not sure.. It wil lbe a NAMM worthy eye popper though.. I love those conversation starter basses HA..... Just like my sparkle bass. . .Ive been off the road the past two weeks and did a church gig ... With the sparkle bass.... The AV crew LOVED it.. A couple old ladies and a few young ladies came up and asked me about it.. Good way to meet chicks but im taken..
One of the real more uptight guys asked me if it was a gay pride bass. hahahaha No sir.. its a copy of a Harley gas tank ... he laughed...

Sometimes i have to ask myself What am I? Flypaper for freaks!?:smug::woot:
