Hey Everyone, Hope ya'll had a great Memorial Day weekend!
I had a question for you guys who are used to dealing with nitro finishes, since I'm a young'un and don't know what to use to clean/polish the body of my LG5. I've got a bunch of different guitar cleaning products but I'm not sure what is mild enough to use of the super thin nitro. Does anyone know what Jimmy recommends?
I've been playing the $#!& outta this bass and just wiping it down isn't getting all the sweat and DNA off it!

Hey Matt! How's it going?

I believe Roger Sadowsky recommends the same products for his Nitro and Poly finished basses. Nice stuff... available direct on his website. The 'daily polish' is great for getting the 'after gig' grit off the instrument, and the more 'heavy duty' stuff is (supposedly) great for smoothing and 'fixing' Nitro finishes.

OK.........total suck-ass news........:(..........the wife has gotten herself into a serious finacial pickle and I am going to be shedding a few pieces of gear to help her out....one of hem being the RA that I JUST got...........:bawl:...........there is no way I'm selling the LG, so there it is.....:scowl:.....the Classified add will go up tonight........club members get dibs......PM with interest......

well it has a wider neck, bigger headstock:smug:
Actually its lighter.. I picked a very light piece of alder.. real light and that makes the bass almost acoustic type loud when unplugged. I got a poly finish on th eneck and body so that is different.. really ywo different animals.. We are working on a viuntage style pickup right now.. this PU has a hotter wind with more focus that a normal P bass..
I played a nitro kbp5 and it is what you would expect.. great

Well let me start off my saying the this instrument is definitely worth the wait. I called Jimmy in January and he was most kind and took the time to discuss what I wanted and offered suggestions. I ordered an LG5 in aged olympic white with matching headstock, poly finish and a tortoise shell pickguard; and the anticipation began. I could not wait to get this bass in my hands and when I finally received it yesterday it was a sight to behold. The first thing I noticed just by looking at it was the quality and craftsmanship just seemed to stand out, the bass stood there as if to say..."Wait till you pick me up". I went upstairs to my music room and gave it a very good going over. The quality of the fretwork is excellent and the neck seems to settle in your hand like it was made just for you. The finish and paint is superb, I don't know who Jimmy has doing his painting, but it rates right up along with a fine sports car paint job, I ran my fingers over the entire instrument and I'll be darned if I could find one bump or blemish. The setup right out of the box was spot-on and I am not sure how Jimmy does this (trade secret). As I played and enjoyed my first minutes with my new bass it was apparent to me how much you didn't have to work, it was an effortless endeavor to make music and I am looking forward to exploring the sounds, tones and colors it has to offer. I am of the firm opinion that this instrument will make me a better player.

One thing I did do was make another investment to protect my instrument by having the Stewart-McDonald company send a SNAGG microship (www.snagg.com) for Jimmy to put in. This is an RF ID chip (not a GPS chip) that lasts about 80 years and is about the size of a grain of uncooked rice. If your local music area is like mine you kind of know everybody else, and if your instrument is stolen and you put the word out or you are lucky enough to find it in a pawn shop, when found the police can scan the instrument and the chip sends out a specific number assigned to your chip for the scanner to read; you can register the chip and instrument at the SNAGG website.

When you finally make the decision to purchase a custom bass you definitely have to do your homework and you need to get your hands on as many as you can to try. But I can tell you from my first experience that Jimmy has made an instrument that is better than the original, and I can highly recommend his instruments to you.

Tonight I got bored, so I tried to get some closeup pics of the lovely nitro checking on my LG5 for you guys, but it's so subtle that I can't pick it up on my camera! Anyways, I still got some pics of some nuancey things about #74 that I really like...things that make it "my bass", if ya know what I mean. You guys have seen enough shots of the full bass, so these are of a little growth patern in the honduran rosewood and the tinted nitro neck! Sorry for the spam, but I'm bored and all these other pics got me thinkin'. :) Matt

Inspired by the above post I thought I would give my Alleva a needed cleaning and slip a set of Sadowsky Blue Nickels back on her and add the PUP Guard I have been meaning to put on her.
