If I am not mistaken I believe he is 77 years old so yes definitely a senior citizen. Judging by the quality of the finishes I have seen and my own 3TS I consider him a true master! Almost every Nitro neck I have played has been a little on the sticky side (I am very active when I play and sweat like crazy) after just a little while. I found myself having to wipe down the neck after a few songs. I must say this is true even on my Sadowsky. I don't have this problem with my Alleva and I often forget to wipe it down between sets which I always do out of habit! It is just the perfect amount of spray applied very evenly that accomplishes this IMO. If anyone else has a Nitro neck maybe they can chime in with their experience as well. I almost didn't want the Nitro neck but I trusted Jimmy and I am very glad I did!

I've got a tinted nitro neck on my KBP-5 and a poly neck on my LG-5. I was a little worried about the nitro neck, I'd ordered it with poly but it came with nitro, but after playing two shows with the KBP-5 I've not experienced any stickiness. The show last weekend was 3 sets in a poorly ventilated bar and I was pouring sweat during the first set. The nitro finish feels significantly thicker than the poly finish on the LG-5 which feels almost like raw wood.

After spending a couple of weeks with the KBP-5 the only flaws I've found are the fret slots were cut too deep, nearly all have a significant amount of filler, and a small amount of what appeared to be buffing compound, a half dozen small white flecks in the black of the sunburst, that eventually polished out with a polishing cloth.

A little aside to add for this AC thread- today, a fine pro player here came by to check stuff out and went away saying the LG was the best bass he's played..and he's owned many boutiques. He was so excited he had to go out for a smoke in the middle almost shaking( his words) and said he's going to order one asap. It was fun to see that kind of reaction from a player like that!

Forgive me if I missed them before but what are the specs on your RA5?

No problem Bernie..I didnt post any specs.
Essentially its the RA I posted (Rueben's) exactly but with a little heavier alder body than his ( it was quite light) and maybe a little more aged or tinted off-white.

So i figured I'd post clips of my 2 AC basses. I figured it was a good one to post as it's a simple bass line so there's less chances for me to fail to live up to my bass potential. Same song different venues. The first is a smaller room with quite a bit of crowd noise the second was a cavernous room so lots of natural reverb. Both were through my LMK2-UL310 rig and recorded with a Zoom recorder via the built in mics.

Thanks for the info...I had no clue the gentleman worked for fender all the way back in the 1950s. Pretty nifty that he is still doing paint after 50+ years. As far as the nitro necks are concerned, I'm very happy with mine and I'm a guy who's exclusively used oil/wax finished necks for a over a decade. I did two sweaty, outdoor in the sun hour-long sets this afternoon and I never even thought about the neck, partly because I had just learned the 30 songs this week so my brain was racked, and partly because I was so happy with my sound that I was trying to see just what I could make the LG5 do. Very Satisfying, although now I'm sunburned like crazy!

Man, I don't see any possible way to afford this after my sunburst LG's come to town... but I'm going to try. These are remarkable basses!
