Seriously tho, I really don't think, especially with Jimmy's finishes, the diffs would be significant enough to discuss from a sound/tone perspective. I'm gonna' go on record saying it's a primarily cosmetic decision (since I do think they look somewhat different, even new), and how comfortable you might be with a finish that will generally show wear earlier (some folks really dig that).

There's a big diff in price between the two that's for sure.

Yeah, but the upcharge for nitro is more about who's doing the work and just the cost of working with nitro than it is any real difference in the quality of the finish. In both cases, the quality is superb, but Poly WILL be more durable.

Even in a better listening environment, on an AC, someone who might be able to normally tell (IMHO debatable) would still have trouble, because he doesn't do the super thick Poly finish like most other vendors doing Poly... for this exact reason.

Jimmy was saying he could hear the difference and I probably could too. I work in a piano trio almost all the time and can really hear my stuff in detail. However, for THAT much less money....I'll bet it's quite acceptable having a thin poly finish. I know the poly would hold up better in the long run.

I've got a 20 year old Jazz made out of Warmoth parts that has been my tonal standard...it's got 60's spacing, alder body, rosewood f/b and nitro. It has had different PUs, strings and wiring through the years and sounds great no matter what.
