Nice old school J Bass tone. Not surprisingly, I totally dig it. While I prefer a little more zing for that style playing (i.e., the more 70's tone of the LM), there's very little not to like about those clips IMO!

I am really at a loss as to what type of strings he's got on there. Does everyone think they're really dead nickels or bright flats? I'm listening on laptop speakers so maybe I'm way off.

Sounds like reasonably fresh nickel roundwounds to my ear on my PC sound system, which is pretty good.

While I dig the tone on that first clip a lot, my guess is, once you get out into the audience, the top end totally disappears. As I always post, it's amazing how much presence you have to have in the upper mids and treble to put a full range tone (especially when slapping) out into the house (which is why it's relatively rare to see a guy playing that style having an alder/RW bass). However, with the close-up mic'ing of that clip, it sounds very nice to me... that nice, polite alder/RW slap tone that is really warm and organic. Again, not totally my thing, since that tone gets eaten up pretty quickly in a mix for that style of playing, but if you have good front of house and/or a LOT of watts, it can work pretty well.

My LG5 with a honduran board was more aggressive then that bass with Nickels and is much more aggressive with Hi Beams, then those clips. I did throw on a set of headphones and it sounded a little brighter then I initially thought but still pretty warm relatively speaking.

Definitely 70's bridge pickup, but who knows what body wood. When things get this custom, I assume it's just custom!

That bass really needs a matching headstock though (IMO). I don't dig the natural headstock at all with the fancy body wood and the dark board. That one doesn't do it for me at all (even though it's a beautiful bass of course).

Definitely a koa top (part of the image name, as well as the finish name "LimitedKoaTopCherryFade").

If all "Limited" basses are 1600's, then I guess that's what it is, which means alder body (and of course 70's spacing).
