*BOFF* Vic takes one to the gut......you can even put those fancy wooden knobs on the Alleva and it wouldn't ruin that
LOL No coffee table knobs for me on these J's tho. In fact, I kinda' like that he uses those classic looking knobs... even tho you can't use a control plate...
My limited experience with the A-C basses suggests that when a bass plays as great as these do looks take a back seat very quickly.
Not that I don't like the looks of my A-Cs because I think they're beatiful. The tone, feel and craftmanship is just unreal.
One reason I dropped out of the Lakland thread 6 months ago was that everyone debated colors and worked on photoshopping different looks. Swapping to new pickups because they look cool. It got really old really quick.
As for Vic's famous PG debate who cares
if the bass kills it kills and when it does the sight of it puts a smile on your face regardless of what it looks like.

LOL...+1! I dropped out of the Lakland thread for much the same reason...It is funny I usually baby my basses as much as I can and I freak out when I get a ding but my LG5 is beginning to look played and is wearing in really nice. I get more compliments on it from other bass players than any other bass that I have had in recent memory. I could not imagine seeing her any other way...
By the way I KNOW the LG5 you have is a monster!!!

Don't get me wrong I'm all for busting Vic's chops......
My only point is if I had a choice between a hot pick LG5 with a purple paisly pickguard and some other bass I'd probably learn to love hot pink and purple.

Earlier in this thread we were talking about messing around with pickup blend settings that did NOT include diming either volume control. I was messing around with this last night and I had some interesting results...
I solo'd the bridge pickup, to keep it simple. Then I messed around with dropping the PTC and dropping the volume... a range of like 70-100% for both the volume and PTC.
At least with the PTC dimed and dropping the volume I noticed a real sweet but focused tone. Cuts the highs as well as the volume (thus leaving the PTC dimed), but it cuts the highs differently than when using the PTC. You can sit there noodling around with your right hand on an open string while adjusting the volume with the left and hear what I'm talking about. I found a sweet spot at what I'd (very loosely) deem to be around 80% volume. Then turn the amp up to compensate. Man, I gotta' say, it was nice. Then maybe even start messing around with adding some neck pickup in, but always keeping it lower or the same as the bridge.
Anyway, mess around with it. See what you think. Maybe your thing, maybe not. Maybe too much trouble to do this kinda' thing live, but at least interesting to me.

The LG5 showed up today, and it is very nice. The nitro finish is great, the action payability, tone; all awesome as one would expect.
Sadly, I also got "seasonally laid off" today. While I might be hired back, I also might not.
So, I can't really keep this.
If anyone's interested, or knows someone who might be, I need to catch and release on this one.

The amount of stuff I'll be selling in the next few weeks/days will be large. I've been turning gig money into gear as a hobby for about 3 decades.
Right now, I need to sell everything I don't need to cover what little musical employment I can get.
Should my fortunes turn, then they turn.
In the meantime, if anyone needs something like a video shooter, editor, producer, director, well, I'm really available.

While we are on this 'swerve' - 6 to 12 months of living expenses in the bank that's the rule. Before a 2nd bass, before the new cool amp and before going out to dinner or leasing a car. Especially given where things are these days.
